There's been plenty of topics on here about throwing a V8 into an Omega and the general opinion seems to be that the engine bay is a little too narrow.
Does anyone know if cutting back the inner front wings would solve the issue, and if it did would this cause any other problems?
Or is the easiest way just going to be to import a Commodore from Aus?

the easiest way i would think would be to buy a monaro :y :y

Afaict, the main issue fitting ls1,2,3 etc is exhaust manifolds missing the steering box and chasis around the bulk head. So question is do you bin the box and fit a rack, or modify the manifolds, as there are non to omega spec, to work with box in situ.
Apart from that it usual drive train, box, dif suitability and general fitting an engine type stuff, and getting ac, vacuum, engine management, abs, tc to work if/as desired.
An ls* v8 will work in almost anything if there's space. They did make the comadore wider for that reason. So it's tight, but has been done. Can think of at least two examples diy'd.

Could a Monaro/Commodore subframe (with rack) be persuaded to fit under an Omega? :-/ assuming of course that the steering column is in the same place. :-/

Oh, and there's the slight issue of finding a suitable ls v8 lump in the first place. 4k with t56 box if your very very lucky. :'(
Plus dif and drive train gubbins...
Although 2 woody might have a plan.....?

Having just sold the Chimaera :'( I'm now window shopping for another toy / project to play with. Most important of all is that it must have a V8 :D
So, having been a huge fan of the ATCC since I was still in infant school, today I have been browsing eBay.au for Ford Falcon XE's and Holden Commadore VN's, with the idea of building a replica of one of my childhood hero's motors.
Either Dick Johnson's 'Greens-Tuff' Falcon;

Or Brockie's early 90's 05 VN

Twas just wondering if butchering an Omega might be a cheaper way of going about the Commadore rep and butchering an old Granny might be a easier way to do the Falcon rep?
(I am allowed to mention Fords on here aren't I?)

both the cars in the pictures are based on V-car platform, which means the front chassis rails are all the same - and all the same as Omega B. The Australian cars have the rails mounted about 1.5 inches further apart than the European ones.
I'm not worried about the exhaust manifold to steering box clearance at all - there are many designs of manifolds available, some of which tuck in very tight to the engine and thus well clear of the side rails.
My Commodore has a reasonable clearance and that's got the classic headers on it - not tucked in tight at all.
By far the most difficult part of the conversion is finding an engine in the first place, which is why I've costed a container full of them to come in from the states. I only need a clear spell to get away from work to be able to go and collect them.
you'll be abel to make a pretty good replica of either of those cars from either a very late live-axle Carlton or a Senator B
