Sorry to be a traitor but I have recently sold my Omega as it was getting too expensive and I now have a Mercedes C180.
It is a rear wheel drive and lately when I accelerate hard I'm getting a knocking noice. I stopped accelerating hard but over a few hundred miles its got worse so now if I accelerate at all its normally there, 2nd gear being the worst.
Now last night when I was coming home from work as I got to about 50mph I got a terrible vibration from the back. I took it up to 80mph (oh i mean 70!) to see if it eased off with speed but it got unbearable.
Today it seems to be happening above 40mph.
I have tried - swapping the tyres with the front, filling the diff with oil (it was pretty full) and nothing seems to be rattling by hand. Also checked the bearings.
Please help i'm out of ideas and have no money!

Check the rubber couplings on the prop

I've tried rattling the prop in all directions (including in and out). Would this be enough of a check?

You want to give them a visual inspection, checking for damage and de-lamination
