My MOTer managed to squeeze it in today, as I'd forgotten to book it in. Opps.
Always a nice feeling to get an MOT :), though the Rover always just seems to be hassle free. 11yrs, 110k, nothing more than standard servicing (in fact the rear brakes have never been checked, due to my incompitence with drums :-[, must take drums off this summer and check wear!). Not sure I've ever changed fuel filter, so thats 7yrs old :o (it came with 3yrs free dealer servicing).
Keep checking the shocks, they still damp well, despite 110k.
It just keeps going on and on, best car I've ever owned. Also the longest I've ever owned, and possibly the one we've done the most miles in as well now...

What engine do you have in the 25?
I personally love rovers. Had a fair few in different guises. Not had a 25, but i had a 400 bubble shape. basically the same thing.
The diesel was my favorite, but the k series 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 engines have always been good to me too. Way ahead of their time on power to CC ratio.
i had 150k on a k series 1.4 no problems at all apart from an alternator, £10 down the scrappy lol.

You have to love the simplicity of a rover. The k series engine is quite easy to work on too. Out of curiosity is it still on the original hesdgasket?

This one is a 1.6 K series.
Had a couple of 400 SLDi diesels back in the late 90s, decent in their day, though diesel technologu has moved on since.
Our 110k Rover still shows a clean pair of heals to bro's 1.6 Astra-H ;)

Like most K series HGFs, its unclear if the HGF was a sympton or a cause of water loss. Was replaced at 72k

Nah, she knows to regularly check the coolant level.

Problem was bad casting in the Alloy head, reducing water movement in vital waterways.
I've seen some comparison shots, and they are shocking.
I think they struggled ot get it under control for a long time.
Stronger headgasket helped, but i think that was a arsebackwards solution.
Ideally, head off, waterways drilled out and ported.
then new gasket.

Obviously a small minorities of castings can be less than perfect, but the problem with the engine, when properly serviced, seem to be around 2 design issues - all alloy, and a chemical reaction that occurs just above the running temp (hence why it is essential not to overheat one), and the original design brief that it has to be at full running temp within 90s of driving, thus minimal water jacket, and associated small coolant capacity, so any issues with the coolant (small leaks, sticky stats, coolant contamination) quickly lead to bigger problems

Which make it a bit delicate, but usually OK if pampered.
And then they put it in cars that had always had cast iron OHV engines that were extremely tolerant of abuse. Metros for example. Just asking for trouble, which wasn't(still isn't in some case) long in coming. I've seen 3 badly overheated Rovers in the last month.

Nope, mine was done pre MLS one. If you put on the MLS one, you need to change the ladder rail as well.

That is not the engine, or indeed, the car's fault. That is the fault of the owners and the poor workmanship of the garages that maintain it.

I wouldn't class a head gasket change as standard servicing, not even on a K series!

Amazing !! You still have this.....that fuel filter may well be a swine to take off now if its been on soooo long.
