Title: Learn something new everyday!!!
Post by: blackviper90210 on 25 April 2011, 10:13:29
Well didn't I feel bloody stupid yesterday!

Travelling upto Derby, stopped at a service station as my 2 year old was kicking off, as they do.
Pulling into the services, the car started to cough & splutter and wouldn't "rev", it then died and failed to start.  >:(

After several attempts at starting, gave up and had a bite to eat, so me and the car could "cool" off.
Yet again the car still failed to fire up, although was turning over and trying to start. In the end rang the AA.

The guy turned up tried using his laptop hooked upto the car to find any codes, but low and behold it the car wouldn't talk to his laptop, great!
Looking at the car he noticed my fuel light was on, thats right, I'm running on gas at the moment and I've got a full tank.
Well, here's the best bit, puts a gallon of petrol in and whoppeee, the bloody thing started.
Apparently, even though it's running on gas, I still need to have a fair bit of petrol in the tank!

So after all that, I just needed petrol, how stupid do I now feel?  :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

Oh well, thats life!  :)

That would explain the fail to start, but not the cough and splutter then stall.

Something else caused that, unless it had switched back to petrol unnoticed for some reason....?

I have no idea, as when it comes to anything mechanical/electrical on a car, I know jack! Thats one reason why this forum is such a brilliant place, the amount of help, information and wisdom is endless!  :)

The AA guy followed me for about 10miles to make sure all was well. I must admit though, the car seems to idle a little better on the gas now though, coincidence? Not sure.

JamesV6CDX, is going to have a look over my LPG set up soon, although not heard from him recently. He did say things were up in the air, lol.  ;)

At the end of the day, she's running again which is the main thing and hopefully James will be available to work his magic!!  :y

I keep a small amount of petrol, just for starting. If it comes to the point of no petrol then just hold the button on the lpg level sensor whilst starting and it will start on gas  ;) Once started this way, you cannot switch between the 2 until you restart normally.
It can be an effort to start on gas when very cold.

Even though you're running on LPG you should keep some petrol in the tank as the fuel pump will run ;)

As for forcing it to start on LPG... It doesn't work on all systems and, as said, it won't switch between fuels :y
