Just a couple of Q's
Just been offered one for literally peanuts and I do have some reservations :-/
1. In essence is the engine the same as the Omega 3.2?
2. As a 4x4 are they any good?
Its in silver, auto, 56k all the toys - air con, cruise, etc.... I've always been a Land Rover man really but I dunno about Fronteras?
Anyone had experience of em???
-
I thought it was the Isuzu engine???
-
a vey underated 4x4 IMHO.
will DRINK fuel though

the diesel is not sure about the petrol :y

I have Frontera A ('95) and only SUV i like more than her is Frontera B. 3.2 petrol is the same as in Omega, i think. Frontera is very good off- road ,and not too bad on road. Fuel consumption on 3.2 is not so good, but what could you expect form 3.2?? With propper tyres she is as goog ( if not even better) as Land Rover. :y

3.2 is an Isuzu motor if this is correct http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isuzu_Wizard

Merely a big engine does not a good car make......

Capable enough 4x4, i ran a 2.5TDS during winter (although it had a fair few problems ::) ), but the day the really bad snow hit in december it got me home no problem. Also was the only one to make it up my street (quite a hill) without any problems - i had to go down and dig my dads discovery out twice to get it up the hill and into the driveway!

what are you buying it for? day to day use? off roading?or towing?
my mate bought a short wheel base one for towing then had a shock when he found out how much it could legally tow.
it drove okay wasnt very good on fuel had a few proplems with electrics and when a radiator hose went it was a main dealer job and it took ages to come.
we took it of road a few times nothing ott as it had road tyres on but it did quite good till we slipped down a hill and hit a tree but that was our fault.

If im honest, I must admit, although I like my Omega, if we have a winter as bad as last year I can't see my miggy gettin up & down the hills of Oldham very well. Got totally snowed in & only my Disco could get me anywhere. I'm not expecting miracles from a £1500 motor and am thinkin of buyin it now as the prices of 4x4's are at their cheapest (especially old gas guzzlers) try buyin one when we had the bad weather!!!! Was gonna use it as a bit of a play thing, iron out all the niggles now whilst the weathers fine, then use over the winter & put the RWD miggy in garage. Been lookin at it today, body work is excellent, not a scratch, underside doesn't seem to have any telltail off road bumps or bangs. Transmission seems ok although engine seems a bit tappety on top??? Just one thing I dunno if its a cam chain or belt???

I do like them also.. but for day to day usage those monsters must have lpg.. or you will watch your account quickly draining.. :-/
-
3.2 Frontera engine is a Honda unit - not related to the Omega unit in any way
-
I am pretty sure its the 6VD1 engine which is an Isuzu job with cambelt, single tensioner (from memory) and a cambelt driven water pump.

I have a 2.2 sport rs frontera 2001..It was fantastic in the snow and didnt let me down once. The only downfall is the fuel comsumption its cheaper to run my 3.0 mv6..I sold it on ebay 2 weeks ago but even though the buyer had 100% feedback he only contacted me once and never bothered to pick the frontera up !!! Think I am gonna keep it until this winter its meant to be a bad one again.
