Depends on the tyres fitted ;)

If they fitted £160 shitty Michelins, then its a good price.  If they fitted £30 Ace Ventura Finds the Ditch, then its poor.

Depends whats the service was, major or small and what the price of the exhaust was

if you work it back
£358.00
less VAT of £59.68
Less Tyres @ £80.00
Less exhaust @ approx £50.00
Less, lets say 2hours labour at £40.00ph
leaves £88.32

So it may be a few quid out depending on labour rate, time taken, and type of service

Pretty sure they cant do that without written permission.  Depends what paperwork he signed when he dropped it off.

They cannot do that unless they have spoken to the owner stating it needs a new exhaust and asking them if they would like 1 fitting.
If she/he hasnt given them permission to do so do not pay it and only pay for what work was asked of them to do

all she asked when she booked it in was two tyres and an engine service

the box definetly is not blowing as i connected compressor up to it and it blew the cork out the end at 30 psi
it is one of those double skinned ones and the outer skin is rusty but second skin is solid

I know the ones you mean and no matter how rough it looks it would pass the mot so long as it's quiet and secure on it's mounts

Of course if it had started blowing a fortnight later  your post then would have been 'why didn't these incompetants spot this?'
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

As was mentioned earlier, I can't see that £385 for a service, 2 tyres and an exhaust is thatbad.
