Title: Cambelt woes..
Post by: squattingbeaver on 08 July 2011, 17:10:00
Hi Everyone

Thought I would share my recent experience, Started the car up and the sound that greeted me was not one I am used to from my smooth 3.2. it was one that made my heart sink..the sound of metal hitting metal. I checked the paperwork and it was just coming upto 4 years since vauxall changed the belt.(only about 25k miles)....things were not looking good.
I called Daz(Darth Loo knee) and he popped over to have a look, after some nifty spanner work he comfirmed that the belt had jumped a couple of teeth. it had not snapped but the damage was done.(bent valves)

Daz gave me a few options to consider and said there was someone on the forum selling some 3.2 heads.. and I purchased these(Thanks Albs)

Daz then had the car collected and taken back to his place. I must say he has worked wonders, the engine is fantastic now and better than I remember it. new heads put on, all new gaskets and Belts...He even took loads of pictures at different stages to show what had been done.

All I can say is fantastic job Daz, one thing I will not do now is wait for another 4 years.
once bitten............

Pete

Outstanding work  :y

Belts very rarely snap, they just do what happened to yours and slip. I wonder if they left the original tensioners and just replaced the belt?  :-/

Glad the heads were OK for you mate, and glad your car is now out of intensive care. :y

They were spot on.

It was touch and go if I was gonna have to pull the plug. :D

I intended to keep the quad electrode plugs, but realised later I had left 5 of them in place and found the 6th one under my bench. ;D
