Got it this morning, pulled everything out the box, looked at the instructions then decided to ignore them!! Hehe :D
I decided to leave the bottom of the air box in place with the cold air feed attached, Hoping it might help protect it from the heat a little!!
Didn't bother with the metal support bracket as it wouldn't fit the the airbox in place! I have now tie wrapped the hose down so there is limited movement.
And it sounds gooooood!!! :D
Went for a drive after and had the food down a bit! MPG has been creeping up!! which I tottally don't understand!! Not complaining though!!

Nice looking foam restrictor that :y
-
looks nice. was thinking of getting 1 for mine until i got in touch with BLUE FLAME exhausts. they have a new air intake system made from titanium. looks cool. can be seen at blue flame website.

Its like marmite!! you either love it or hate it!!

Looks like a right beast of an intake that! Is it just universal fit?
-
it's a universal system but they custom fit it to your car. not that expensive either. they also do custom fit exhaust systems for v6 omeegas. iirc 1200 ish for full system or 595 for a cat back custom. was saving up but circumstances have changed :'( :'( :'(
-
Just keep putting the pennies away!!
I am now looking for some clever person to make a heat shield that fits to the bottom of the air box and over the filter!! :y
-
why not just direct pipe it to the air rams and fit your pipercross in front of the rad. eliminates the need for a heat sheild and means you'll only be taking in cold air, thus improving performance.

Interesting Idea but I doubt it would fit!! And it would get soaked in the rain!!

not if you wrapped a plastic bag around it. ;D ;D ;D ;D

honestly tho mate even with a heat shield you will still intake warm/hot air. the only draw back with pipercross/k&n etc etc. they really do need to be placed as far forward as poss. prob tellin you what you already know no offence intended.

Don't you worry bud, no offence taken, I was aware of the heat situation before I made the decision to buy a pipercross, it was during the Yorkshire/N.E Lincs meet when I saw a few people with various cone filters and not having any bother or noticable performance loss that I made the decision.
I did intend on taking out the entire air box but to me it seems better to leave it in, I am no expert on these matters and I know allot of members won't have a cone filter due to the heat issue but the noise bonus was just too good too tempting!
-
i did toy with going down the k&n route for a while but got put in touch with blue flame. spent nearly an hr on the fone to them. am gonna start saving again shortly :) :) :)

Good Stuff!! Make sure you let us know when you get it!! Interested to know what the noise is like on the full induction kits like that one and others like the Pipercross Viper.
-
I have just been looking and I think that the original air box top cover could be large enough with a few mods to fit back on the top and seal the pipercross in the box. I am just not sure if that will make it better or worse though :y
-
Got the same one on mine matey, some love 'em some hate 'em. No real performance gain but what lovely noise. No right or wrong really just a matter of opinion.
Selling the Mig soon so will put back to standard. :y

Very True!!
How come you selling then? Are you upgrading?
-
What noise does it produce? Ie at idle, mid, high?
Would love to hear one in the flesh. Do they interfear with the MAF sensor at all??
-
No Noise on idle, If driven nomally you can't hear it at all, only when you put your foot down and under load.
This is just right for me as I don't want loads of noise all the time, it would just get annoying!

Yeah thats pretty much what it sounds but I think the pipercross sounds better!!
And it definatly sounds better than that when drving and the engine is under load.

WTF is a "pipercross"? What does it do? Why would anyone want one?
The replies here just seem to indicate that it makes the exhaust sound better. Is that all? :(

Well it gives it a noisy type grunt from what I understand mate. the wife loves them!
Just dont want a noise on the motorway... or a MAF problem :-/

There is no noise on the motorway and while cruising, only when you put your foot down!! And the noise comes from the engine bay not from the exhaust so it doesn't sound like your average saxo with a big bore on the back!! More like a DB9!! hehe!!
If you don't oil the filter like me then you won't have the MAF problem, just have to remember to take if off once in a while and give it a shake!!

Why shake it? :-[ And you oil it???
-
Because its not been oiled to stop the MAF from going wrong, I don't think you can clean it in the conventional way pipercross tells you too, so all you can do is give it a good wipe and tap the dust off!!
I don't know for certain though, someone correct me if I am wrong.

Problem is these filters rely on the oil to retain all the muck they have filtered out and prevent it entering the engine. I would oil it, myself, as it'll be filtering the air very poorly if dry. Just don't go mad with the oil.

I think, doesnt worth risking MAF as theres no visible power gain :-/

love that - but when i fitted mine it was a bit noisy so chucked it back in the garage - might have to get it back out ::)

Hmmm, Something to think about!! I might give it a quick spray!!

Do'nt care, i'm a big tart & i love 'em. No power gain but the induction roar is to die for. However not for everyone so original airbox & filter will go back on before sale of car. New mot £600 to OOF member.
(I'll put the pipercross on the new one)

That's the side effect - Piercross/K&N etc filters DO rely on the oil to catch the dirt. Sadly the oil will trash a hot wire AFM - maybe not immediately, but its lifespan will be shortened by a horrific amount...
Think about it - the dust particles need to be retained somehow. Paper filters are disposable for a reason. Foam/cotton ones use oil as the air holes are bigger (we are talking microns here, BTW) and are oiled as the path through them for the air is convoluted. Dust doesn't like travelling round bends (unlike air), so gets stuck in the oil.
Oil does get transferred off the filter and into the airstream. As all air goes through the AFM, some gets stuck to the hot wire air flow sensor. Note the word hot...what happens when oil hits a hot metal surface? Look at a proper chinese wok.. :-?
When the hot wire gets coated with oily residue (the same muck you have to clean off your throttle body occasionally), it reduces the cooling effect of the air that passes past it - air that the ECU tthinks is entering the engine - so the ECU injects less fuel. Good? Until the ECu thinks there cannot be this little air going in, so flags up a MAF/AFM fault or two...or a Lambda fault, as the weak mixture measured at the exhaust can't be corrected within its limits, so you get fuel trim faults..etc, etc, etc...
When I need a higher flowing air filter on a car, i looks at a car with something bigger and use that cars larger filter. Not a Mig, but Mini magazine did a test with the stock filter (and housing) vs every other filter on the market. The standard one won by a comfortable margin..
OK, you can't replicate the noise easily, but the old airbox drilling technique still gives the noise as long as it can still get cold air!
-
Yeah but it sounds good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Do you know any member on this forum that has installed pipercross viper induction kit? I want to ask him to make video about engine sound, and post it. If there is such video please send me link...

Cough cough, were did this one come from ;D

Sorry guys, I'm a little bit noob about these kind of things. :)
Just help me. If I got this right(now) pipercross viper induction kit is a thermal insulating cone "box" (miss the word so I used term "box"), in which comes a cone air filter. But is the filter integrated inside of a cone box, or can put any cone air filter I want (with proper dimensions of course)?

I believe the pipercross is just a standard cone type filter, with no specific help to keep engine heat out.

Nope, it's a fully enclosed cone filter, if you go look up the product cure2fast is talking about ;)
cure2fast - I can't see why you couldn't replace the filter inside there with a different kind, assuming it'll physically fit.. although if Pipercross still use foam filters I imagine they flow pretty well (albeit lack filtration)
-
Actually, I am concerned about one thing, if I buy pipercross viper kit, after filter gets dirty, can I just easily replace it with a new K&N filter(for example), which physically fits of curse?
And can someone send me link with engine sound(mv6 if possible) after putting pipercross viper kit(with its original filter)...does it change sound of engine at all?

You are sure 100% about this, or its just an assumption?

Ah, OK. Wouldn't that mask the noise, which is the only point of a cone on an Omega :-/
-
Guys cause pipercross viper kit is too expensive, would it be ok if I just put cone filter in some sealed plastic box with a big cold air intake? Will I lose some power then? Is it better for cone filter to be sealed in box, or just to be free like richardirv's?
AND QUESTION FOR richardirv: Do you fell any lack of power in hot days, with your cold air intake system?
-
Surely the main selling point of a foam air filter is that you can clean and re-oil it, not just chuck it away when it's dirty? (something you'll have to do every couple of K miles)

Agreed, specially being open in the engine bay, these kinda kits attract ALOT more dirt. so be ready to clean every couple of months.. :y
