Must be worth it, as the sellers states it's 95% complete ;D ;D, just need to spend another 13k to complete the outstanding 5% so you can get the 15k price for a fully restored model :-X ;D ;D

guy will soon be along to advise :y ;D

The cynic in me says that someone will buy it for the log book, and somewhere a 2 door MK2 Cortina will be stolen..... :-X :-X :-X

Hey up our kid! The Mk2's are worth considerably less than the Mk1's but still worth a "Lotus" project hence the id having a value. Not many 2 door shells around in any condition now so who knows? There are folk in the classic car world who will spend any amount to get them straight over & above the resulting value.
The thing is with 2 door cars of the ilk they were either in real base spec or full blown, no in between & 90% were 4 doors, ie the Sierra. " doors came in real fleet spec, not even an "L" or XR4x4's & only a few Cozzies. They never made a 2 dr Sapphire...Mk 1 & 2 Escorts all fetch money but the 2 drs make more even as a resto project.
I'll shut up now but it's hard to say what'll happen to this one. Being a bit soppy i hope it'll go to someone who needs some original dials etc to finish a better project, has'nt even got it's 5.5j steelies!

PS. Just noticed original 1558 twin cam engine & box still in place. Even needing a rebuild it's there. Guy. (Classic Ford Saddo)!!! 8-)

Highly sought after for classic rallying. :y
-
I think my bro used to have one in the late 70s/early 80s

My Dad used to work at a Ford main dealers when these were in their prime... he reckons they went like shit off a shovel.. I am sure he mentioned some stick on the door warning not to open the windows over 100mph :D

Worth the money in my eyes. Like mentioned above, even a Mk11 Escort 1300L would make similar money :y

A few years back, I was clearing out my Step Fathers Garage and come across some A4 original Ford (Trimoco) Sales Brochures and leaflets on the MK2 Lotus (Hes dream Car), they were in an envelope and in good nick.
Put them in the rubbish pile, thought about it, took them out the rubbish pile and wacked them on eBay, thinking I might get a Fiver from someone with 99p start, got something like 78 bids from memory and sold for just under 240 quid.
:o :o :o
Very desirable Cars me now thinks.

Very true. I believe that the Mk1 Lotus Cortina was made on the same production line as the Emma Peel Elan in the Lotus factory.
The less desirable Mk2 Lotus Cortina was manufactured on the same production line as the more humble versions of the Mk2 Tina at the Ford factory.

the sierra 3 door was base spec or XR4i or cosworth mostly, (xr4x4 was later 5 door) in uk market.
The lotus cortina will make good money, ifs its a real one someone will be itching to restore it.
none of the 4 doors, escort, cortina etc do aswell, but with 2 door prices of even basic models getting high, the 4 doors values rise aswell.
I always wanted a mk5 cortina 2 door or my fav the mk3. but dont really go in for fords the prices are getting silly, even the 80s stuff like XR2's (mk1 and mk2) xr3's (mk3 and mk4 escorts) are all getting lots of money for decent conditions.
The older stuff gets further and further out of reach for enthusiasts. :-/

My friend owned a 2000 GXL "M" reg in the early eighties. It looked very smart in white with a BVR. The girls loved it.... :D :D :D :D. But not as much as a 3 litre Capri.... :-/

I sold a mk1 Escort Twin-Cam on ebay last year for almost twice that - and it was little more than a log book with an engine
-
Theres a beautiful mk1 escort RS1600 (big arched, fully rally prepared) in the garage of the house opposite, and a near concours MK1 Lotus Cortina in the house next door to that.
Perhaps I should take up car crime. ::) ;D ;D

My ex boss had one on a C reg and was concourse. I never drove it but was driven in it and went like poop off a shovel. Him and his business partner then bought a Lotus Sunbeam. That went like teflon poop off a teflon shovel! I really wish they had gone the whole hog and bought a Lotus Carlton to finish it off lol.
I remember before i could drive, buying a 2 door, mk2 escort (something like a 1600) for £20 from a mate. Sills were fooked so as i was working for a steel fabricators at the time, my bosses said i could have as much of the steel they wouldnt re-use and within 6 weeks, i had her taxed, mot'd and because i couldnt drive, i sold her for £250 (only spent a max of £50 on parts) and that was about 1996!
