Following on from the Worst car in the world thread, which is somehow about Omegas now :o, I was thinking about GM's Ausie Omega successor, the Holden VE Commodore (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_VE_Commodore). I’m sure it will never be seen in Old Blighty but...
Is it any good?
Is it anything like an Omega?

Yes. Bigger engine. Less toys. I would say desirable.
Was driven in something similar at the lakes. Very flexible engine. Sport spec. QUICK. :y

Hsv r8 clubsport, I think. Part of the Holden special vehicles family anyway. Impressive sport pac on it. Massive ap brakes.
2woody will give more accurate info no doubt. :y

That did sound tasty 8-) A bit of a Q car, not particularly overstated, especially in dark blue. :y
A bit like the Cavalier Cesaro V6, only much, much , much better ;D

Aussies are such fun to drive. If i had an opportunity to buy something of commodores, it shoult be a Ute :y
-
I currently have two - both VT2 Commodores, an SS and a "clubsport R8".
just up my street really, big, brash, no toys and 400 horsepower
The VE commodore is the first of the Aussie cars that ISN'T based on the V-car platform ( i.e. Omega )
-
That’s why I was asking – I know the pre-06 Commodores are all flavours of stretched and widened Omega, but I was wondering if the new platform is as capable as the old one.
The V8 Supercars series supposedly uses the VE Commodore but it is so different from the production car I don’t really think that tells us much.
I guess I was just wondering if GM do already have a worthy Omega successor in the VE Commodore, if fashion should ever change and open up a European market for such monsters.
Your two sound great - hope I get the chance to see them - and hear them - some day. :)
-
yes they do its call the VXR8 which is just a Vauxhall Badged Commodore.
Go the www.holden.com.au and compare the Commodore againist the Vauxhall VXR8 you'll will see they are one and the same.
The Aussis did get a 3.6 V6 version which would of been better over here as and Omega replacement but i don't think we'll see another RWD car from GM europe as its all small, fuel saving cars these days
Cheers

Ah, Andy. I saw your name on the thread and thought "ooh. Andys going to do us a deal on vxr8 stock clearance last chance everything must go with extra money off type deal. Oh well never mind. ;D
Don't like the new ones. Bit ott. More toys though. I believe...? Crapple, don't work on that site. :(

Interesting - looks as if you can get a new mid-spec V6 Commodore in Aus for the equivalent of £26K and 6L V8 from around 33K.

and a couple of K for a twenty foot container or about a grand for rollon rolloff ferry
-
don't forget ten percent import duty and VAT.
oh yes, and if it's a model available in the UK then HMRC will charge the duty on the UK price that GM charge and not the price you paid.
