Title: Searching for an Elite
Post by: x25xe on 12 July 2007, 13:06:07
As some may know, I am looking for an Elite.  Ideally, I wanted an oil cooler failure project but have found this on e-bay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2000-VAUXHALL-OMEGA-ELITE-V6-AUTO-GREEN-MOT-JAN-08_W0QQitemZ300129106999QQihZ020QQcategoryZ9858QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Whilst the car looks nice, I am a bit suspicious of the mileage.  Looking at the feedback, the guy is obviously a home trader.

What do peps on here think?  Good or a "too good to be true" situation?

Cheers for any advice

What makes you think it's too good to be true?

Maybe if it was at that price with two hours to go, yes. But it's got 3 days to reach a good price yet. I would watch it and see what happens.

Just a small point. People, esp traders, who use a womans name as a username, always ring alarms bells with me. It's as if they're saying 'You can trust me, I'm a girlie and know nothing about cars'. Hmmm :-/

if its close enough to you (i havent looked yet) then have a look at the car in the flesh, the mileage doesnt look suspicious to me imho, tis just about average for the age

Just an idea but could you run an mot check wouldn't this show the current mileage or you could ask the seller to email a copy for clarification. :-/

Cheers for the replies.

Am watching it and it is now at £970 with 21 bids.

I had not worked out if the mileage was around average or not to be honest - just looked low to me. :-[

I am in Heathrow and the car is in leeds so it is a fair old trip to have a look, however, if I had the time, then I would.  From the pictures it looks good.  I don't know why, but the alarm bells rang slightly on this.

Trouble is, the car is in the right colour (for me anyway) and with the right colour interior.

Will let you all know if I buy and thanks again.

One word of caution.

When you list on ebay you can entre the VRM and ebay fill in all the details about registration date, number of former keepers etc. So, why has this seller then  gone in and editted out the number of former keepers? Why would he/she/it do that?

ANY dealer who starts concealing anything I am wary of. Remember, last month I bought my replacement corsa only to find the dealer had forged the service history. If I am frank here, most dealers are sharks. There are some honest ones, but I have met MANY and wouldn't lend one of them a fiver!

Yes the dealer I dealt with settled out of court so to speak, but I would have taken him to the cleaners otherwise.

Yep, number of former keepers not being present was one of the things that made me cautious.  The whole ad just does not "feel right" if you know what I mean.  Silly spelling and what looks like a deliberate amateur listing when the feedback clearly indicates that the seller only sells cars!

Think I will follow my instincts on this one.  Sure there will be others along.

Thanks to all those who have advised.

Just asked him. He came straight back with 'Three owners'
