Title: Different tyre size ok??
Post by: MutantCav on 31 July 2011, 17:12:26
I need a tyre for my Focus 15" alloys...they are 195 60 15's...£50 each to get a replacement...

So in the garage I have 3 good 15" tyres sat on some omega alloys...205 65 15's...tenner a piece to swap the tyres over and I need the tyres off the alloys anyway to weigh them in...

So apart from having to swap over 2 of the tyres onto the Focus alloys so the tyre sizes are the same on the axle...will 205 tyres fit ok in place of the current 195's?? Which able would you put the wider 205 tyres on, presumably the back?? and doe anyone see any issues with doing this other than a potential difference in the reading on the speedo??

if putting both on the rear should be fine, dont see any issues. unless you want to wait and see what other OOFers might have to say.. :y

not only are they wider, but taller as well. That may cause all sorts of clearance issues. Also, $10 per tyre seems a lot to pay for a swap.

I'd advise against this Chris - if anything happened (God forbid) then surely you would have gone against the manufacturers wheel/tyre mix wouldn't you. Possible insurance issues also?

As it happens, I happen to have some of the correct sized tyres for these wheels and would be happy to negotiate to an agreeable solution - even if it's my tyres on your steelies so I can them move my alloys on via the bay.

Cheers

The swap includes balancing etc...found a good alternative option so may not be an issue :y

205/65 is quite a bit bigger rolling diameter,if you are only fitting to one axle the abs system could have a jib about it

Well there is no point asking a question unless you listen to the good advice given...so I have bought a nice set of 5 excellent condition 15" Subaru Impreza alloys with near new 195 60 15 tyres on for £53...the alloys are being weighed in which should get my £50 back, one tyre will go on the Focus alloy that needs it...giving me 4 good spare near new tyres as and when needed :y

Thanks for the offer Robert, just needed a near nothing cost option which this gave me :y
