Title: Going to view this on Saturday - 2.6 MV6
Post by: i260 on 04 August 2011, 11:59:51
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201130405996652/sort/priceasc/usedcars/keywords/mv6/page/2/radius/1500/postcode/np109lu?logcode=p

Description seems to be good - any points to watch out for except rusty rear arches?

(.. yes that does mean my 2.6 CDX will be for sale!)

looks tidy  :y

make sure that cambelts been done, at least once, pref twice, but £1 to 1p says its due, NOW on age, not mileage  :y

Looks nice, about right money too. Bit of haggling & get that for under 2k.

Personally, I would replace the cambelt no matter what the history or owner says. For small price, you have peace of mind & know exactly when its been done and when its due.

Cambelt has been done on age at 4 years and yes will need doing again now (probably one of the reasons for sale!). I suspect a service in about October including cambelt.

Only 2 things wrong with it as far as I can see... Caps missing from plenum (pinch them off your cdx), and it's not Black!!  :D (you do know that the black ones are faster, isn't that right Chris?)  ;)

Joking aside, it looks like a cracking car for the money, and your leather recaros will look the business in it!! Good luck!!  :y

I am not sure I will put the leathers in that one - they are good but that MV6 will show them up  (not that they are bad but probably have 100k on them) plus I can not get hold of a matching rear saloon seat set yet. I was ahppy to have the subtly mis-matching seats in the cdx but this will need to have everything mint - I was more concerned to get the sport seat than them being leather, plus me being a bit petite I slide about on the leather a bit  :-[

Do you have a matching estate rear seat then? What year car did they come out of? Can I have first refusal on them then please?  :y

Could just be the picture but it looks like the airbox-intake jubilee clip is missing... Just make sure you have a good poke about ;)

I'd be tempted to whip the top off it and check the filter (says full Vx SH so check it's a Vx Filter) but you'll have to check he doesn't mind as it is screwed on the newer ones ;)

But it looks very tidy and worth the price any day :y :y

I have a 52-plate car with only just over 100K which you can have for a lot less than that one - cambelt already done

and it's even got the plenum plugs in it.

Reason for purchase is to get a cer with LESS miles than my current car, not more  ;)

If I wanted these other suggestions I would keep the cdx and pop the eibachs and billies on it that I have in the garage and then have an 'mv6' as it already has the interior! There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the cdx / wasnt intending to change.

Just looking to do some future-proofing as I dont want to be left with a 150000 mile car in a few years and not know what to get then.

Hopefully this way the Insignia VXR auto tourers will be affordable AND the MV6 will still be respectable with just 100k on it!

Thanks all for comments - will report back satruday evening.

mileage means nothing - part of the reason I'll sell that particular car is that it doesn't have enough mileage on it

Indeed. I'd take my 120,000 mile MV6 that I've owned since 4 years / 40K old, over anything advertised with a low mileage these days. What's the betting that "FVSH" is based on the 20K mileage interval and that it hasn't had annual servicing as it should with such low usage?
Title: Re: Going to view this on Saturday - 2.6 MV6

My 154k 2.2 runs better than when I first picked it up at 84k with 'service history'

Oil changes every 3k make huge difference.

Trouble is, it needs a good £400 spent on it soon really, although thats mainly tyres, exhaust, rear springs and coolant tank (sensor buggered)

Its a question of spending that, or find something with lower miles. But those could just as easily be in worse shape than mine  :-/

...but is is everything else that inevitably detiorates around through using it. The engines go on forever - that is not my concern.

None - annual service I'm 'fraid.

I knew this old chestnut would raise its head - wish I hadnt bothered starting this thread now. All the miserable old far*s start grumbling.

Was sunroof a cost or delete option on late MV6's then?

I was surprised that this one did not have one.

If it helps mate, the 03 plate MV6 estate I'm breaking has a sunroof in it.

Did you get it then?  :-/

Waiting to get quotes on the servicing etc that is needed but I reconing about a grand of bills in total as a min:

8th Annual, Cam belt, sparks, mot and tax are all imminent.

Wheels really need a refurb (tyres are good but unknown) and some amount of cosmetic work required in places  to make it good- deffo not 'mint' in my opinion.

Unimpressed with the Irmy back box - must be getting old!!

I would also want to get cruise retro fitted - another £50-100 and get the rears tinted again as per my current mig - another £150.

Jury is out for the weekend  :-/

On the DBW models cruise is simply a matter of a new stalk and a tech2 switch on. Having said that, I'm very surprised that it doesn't have cruise fitted from the factory!  :-/

I'm beginning to wonder as to whether this car is genuinely an MV6 now, which it being a 2004 car. I'm no expert though, so don't take any notice of me.  :y

Neither cruise nor sunroof was standard on a facelift MV6.

deffo mv6 (see previous posts regarding retrofit to mv6) - i am more surprised about the lack of sunroof.

Really the mv6 is a sporty cdx than an alternative to the elite (opens another can of worms  ;D)

On the plus point - weight saving, no problem with the black trim rusting and more headroom!

Downside - I have got used to having a sunroof.

Yep. :y Not to mention when they develop a mind of their own and start opening when you least expect it.

I had one in my last car, for about 8 years. Don't recall ever using it.

If you can't take the whole roof off, might as well leave it be IMHO. ;D

Cools the car down MUCH quicker after leaving it parked in an open carpark at work. I use it every day for half the year.

126,000 miles!

Reserve not met at £1,900!!

Naaaa!!!

my cdx has all the bits I want - I would rather slap some 17's on mine than have that Elite.

Just look at my estate... Serviced by Vx all of it's 67k and it was in a worse state than my 177k saloon (oil colour wise!)  :o

Had another oil and filter change last weekend... 4k since the previous and still coming out a little on the dark side for my liking ::) Looks like the sump's going to be coming off it in the not too distant future too ::)

Mind you... If things go as I hope (work wise) then the car is going to see a lot of work and TLC as the annual mileage will be dropping considerably :y :y

Just looked into the 'noname' ditchfinders it is shod with - PRESTIVO SPORT.

Seems thet they are to be avoided at all costs - cheap Yokos with bad reviews.

UPDATE:

Car sold for near asking price - congrats to the seller coz it aint worth that by a mile.

Back to the 'project' car then...

If it's a 2004 model It may come with ESP. According to the handbook for my December 2003 MV6 a few of the very last Omega's trickled out with ESP. ......Sadly mine was not one of them... :'(
