Title: Corsa 1.2 twin port - poor fuel economy
Post by: Allenm on 10 September 2011, 12:58:13
Hi

My son's 2005 1.2 twin port is getting really poor fuel economy.  It has been serviced etc. The tyres are inflated properly and the driving style is not too bad, he is actually driving like an old man to try and save fuel (£30 doesn't even get 200 miles!)

Is there anything obvious that those in the know would say to check?

Cheers
Merv

If Ive done the sums right, that works out to just over 40 to the gallon, what was it doing before?

Sorry, should have been more precise.  He is getting around 31mpg ie, just ove 150 miles from £30

I was more basing it on the fact his car gets worse mpg than my wife's 1.8 civic - and she doesn't drive economically!

We have a 1.2 twinport 05 plate like you for our son and the wife uses it. It is used as shopping trolley and soley around town and the odd trip down the M3 to Basingstoke as a treat few times a year. It starts cold twice a day and does a full tank in 220 miles about a months driving, however drove it to Cornwall and back once when I had no choice it did 220 miles on half a tank with the a/c on as well at the legal limit. I think that was pretty good.

Pull the EGR valve off and give it a good clean  :y

Before you refit it, give the internals a very light oil then see how it goes  :y

Thanks for the advice.  I will have a look at the egr valve as that should be quite easy,  does the gasket needs to be replaced or can the old one be re-used.  Anyone with TIS copy the instructions for replacement?

Thanks again

I've never had to change a gasket on one  :)

I believe its just a smaller version of the omega's  :-/
Should be just 2 bolts and the plug  :y

Give it a try then report back and tell us how it goes  :y
