Appologies for it not being a mig quiestion, but it is for my dad on his merc c2.2. Sometimes kicks down sometimes doesnt even with foot floored. I have sent him out to try the triptonic side of things and suggested checking the fluid level and colour but that is about it for me and autos, (despite me driving one for the last 8 yrs). Has no faults showing up on dash, I dont live local to him to plug in to it.
Does anyone have any ideas as I have seen in the past that engine faults can cause the box to do strange things, so should I be looking at the engine rather than the box.
Cheers Al

i would certainly check the auto fluid level in box first :y

Then check the electrical plug which goes into the box - o/s/f towards the bottom iirc. The o rings leak after a while and allow ATF to seep into the electrics which causes problems with the box. They all do it at least once during the lifetime of the car. ;)
If it needs one I believe I paid about £20 for the part a couple of years ago.Be prepared for about half a litre of ATF to run out when you remove it.
There is a name for the part but I cant remember what it is tbh.
Plenty of info on the subject on Merc forums. :y

Many thanks, will get him to check the plug if the fluid is fine.

Just remembered - the part is called the pilot bush. :y
They do like a fluid and filter change after a few years too, just like Omega autoboxes do. :y
Merc specify their own brand of ATF, not sure if Dexron 3,4 etc. is suitable. Cost me about £100 for parts all in from Merc for DIY service. ;)
