Just posted on 'what have you done on your car today' and saw a query on how to torque up a nut that requires the upstanding bolt end secureing as on the rear shocker top mount nuts.
My answer is revert to the days when a poor mechanic's (me) DIY torque wrench consisted of a longer than 1 ft breaker bar with a notch cut exactly 1 ft from the diag centre of the half inch socket square.
This notch is to locate an accurate spring balance on
Simply now pull the balance and increase pull power @ right angles until the ft pounds required reading is obtained on the balance.
In the case of the shocks modify this technique by useing a ring spanner within a notched tube on the nut.
And secure the now exposed centre bolt end by whatever convenient method :y

I think that was my post. :y I also seem to remember I have a couple of old spring balance scales in the shed from my fishing days.Might have a go at that in the morning. I knew about it but had long since forgotten.Might be intersting to have a go again after all these years. :y
