Title: Car Trader No No ??
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 22 September 2011, 00:41:20
So I went and bought a Golf GTI at the auctions tonight.....
Did I buy it for the fortune I'll make on it?  No!  ::)
Did I buy it because it's a sought after model and I'll sell it easily? No!  ::)
Did I buy it for its low insurance? No!  ::)
Did I buy it for the FSH, and shed loads of receipts proving it's been well loved and not thrashed within an inch of it's life? No! ::)

I bought it 'cos I never had one when I was younger and always wanted one!!!  Doh!!!!  :-[  :D

Which Golf, though? The one I have the biggest soft spot for is still the Mk1 :)

Fist car was a mk1 1.1 formel E  :)

Had 88 on a slip road in holland once  ;)
Soon dropped down to about 70 after a very hard stare of a dutch traffic plod  :-[ ;D

Second car was a nice tax free mk2 16 valve GTI via GTI engineering who turned it into a RE 2000  ;D ;D ;D

Seriously quick car  ;)

It's an '02 Mk 4 GTi 115bhp in black, with 62k on the clock and in very good condition  :y

However....................... I picked it up from the auction today and gave it some wellie from the traffic lights and there's a horrible grinding noise from the front nearside....  :( The noise only happens when it's wellied in 1st gear, in all the other gears it's fine. If I pull off gently in 1st it's normal.... :-/  My gut feeling is that for 62000 miles it's been thrashed away from traffic lights, and 1st gear is knackered....
It is an auction car after all and I got it for a decent price, so even if I sell it as a project I don't think I'll lose out...  ::)  and it's still quite fun!!  :y :y
