Finished the refurb and clean inside and out of all 4 wheels/tyres.
Waiting for the tyre foam to dry then will fit them onto the grey omega.
Will take more pics when fitted, but delighted with the finished result.

excellent job :y :y :y

Very nice!!!
Did you just spray & lacquer them yourself :).

No, I used modeling clay to fill the imperfections, touched them in with metallic silver humbrol paint (perfect match) used compound and buffed them up to a shine, then sealed in with wax. taken me since xmas eve to get this far. :D

Nice work fella - doing mine at the moment with Metalik filler and the humbrol paint you mentioned - had to order a spray can from Humbrol online though as no damn shop within 20 miles of me has any!
What compound and wax did you use? I've worked out the filler and paint, but don't know what to seal the wheels with.
:y

the compund was in an old rusty tin that was in the back of the jensen, is/was top quality stuff, tho the name cant be made out on the tin anymore. I used autoglymn super resin x3 coats. seeing as the car wont be going anywhere anytime soon ill just use my bottle of mer on them every month or so.

I have Poorboys Wheel Sealant but not had the chance to use it yet but its one of the best to use or auto glym super resin polish. You could use Dodo juicy lime prime to clean first then seal with wheel poorboys which is what i'm waiting to do.
Hope this helps mate . :y

Nice one lads, thanks.
Got the first wheel all masked up and waiting for the paint to arrive... when it's drying i'll nip out to halfrauds and see what I can pick up from the autoglym range.

it was a small tin of the brush on stuff i got, not aerosol, not sure what kind of finish you would get from humbrol aerosol cos its not 2k or celulose. how bad are your wheels? pm me a pic as ill be able to advise better :y

I have got several tins of the brush on stuff, but I can't apply it in a smooth enough finish (either I'm just cack handed or i'm doing it wrong!). I was concerned that the spray stuff wouldn't be the right type.
All my wheels are badly scuffed - the first one has had to be filled in a couple of surface areas and the entire rim had light kerb damage which I've had to sand out. As a result I'll have to repaint around the rim and a couple of the spokes to get a clean finish.
I'll PM a pic of one of the wheels on the car, once I get some daylight - feel free to advise!
-
for small areas up to the size of a pea (the biggest any of mine were) the brush marks wont matter as the compound takes the lines off the surface of the newly applied paint, leaving a smooth glossy finish, similar idea to using bodyfiller. the resin seals in the shine and prevents contaminants bonding to the new paint.
ill know more when I see the pics. ;)
edit: must learn to spell/proof read

Ta.
I've had a go at doing one of the edges and a large (about the size of a 50p piece) filled in area. I'll let the paint dry overnight then have a look at polishing it out tomorrow - if the finish is crappy I can always sand it out and do it again!
Cheers
John.

remember you cant use celulose laquer on top of humbrol, unless you want orange peel effect wheels ;D ;D

Ah, break. starting the think I've bitten off more than I can chew. Never mind, patience, paint, polish and very light wet and dry will get me there in the end! :y ;D
-
if I was closer id paint them for ya, but im not close to anyone up here, well maybe some polar bears..
-
Thanks mate - i'm taking the slow and steady approach myself at the moment, due to my new year debt replayment plan that doesn't allow me to spend the £260 to get them professionally refurbished.
So, whilst the girlfriend is away, I'm taking advantage of the fact by practicing on the first wheel on the dining room table...! :y
-
have you got any quality street tins left over from xmas? if yes, get the lid, use a green scourer from under the sink, and rub the shine off the paint, the wash in soapy water, rinse and dry.
when your paint comes spray the lid, let it dry and try polishing it, that will telll you what kind of finish you will get. :y
-
That's a handy tip - thanks! Now I'll have to find a tin - i'm sure I have one round here somewhere... :y

Just as an example of what's to come - this is the worst wheel on the car.

and a closeup of one of the areas of damage:

Those scuffs are deep - at least through the lacquer layer, and heavily into the paint. On the wheel i'm working on at the moment, i've had to sand the affected area and then fill it - the only problem I'm having is painting and finishing the area so it doesn't look too obvious!

I feel like i'm spamming this thread...
Just found a thread on DW that refers to using Wurth Silver paint and Lacquer on Elite wheels, with a perfect match!
So now I'm going to rub down my test wheel properly, order the paint and lacquer, and post up a few pics once it's all done. :y
EDIT: forgot the links - both these threads help. On the second thread, last picture, you can't tell the difference between the original paint and the repair!
