some roose/samco hoses would also set it off!
-
i did think that, but i've never seen any for a mig?
-
You need to remove the paint from the gasket surfaces i.e.
Where the throttle mounts
Where the EGR assembly mounts
Inside the hole for the breather bridge
Inside the idle air valve hole
The base of the plenum where the rubber seals from the inlet mate
Should be easy to do and wont be obvious but, you dont want paint being ingested or any of the seals being compromised
-
thanks for heads up, i was going to sand off the overspray anyway, but it's nice to see your on the ball [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]
This is the finished item.
Also put some carbon over the vauxhall badge

where did you get the carbon from steve 8-) 8-) 8-)
-
the world renound site called........ Ebay
Just bought a sheet of it.
Cost about a tenner for an a3 size piece
-
Looks sweet mate what sort of paint did you use for that? Carbon sets it off!
-
I use, and don't laugh...
It's grafitti spray paint, the benefits being,
large 600ml cans,
good coverage,
A nice even coat everytime,
and, it's only just over £4 a can.
They do loads of colours...
I'll be doing my wheels when it gets warmer, anthracite.
-
I take it thats what you used before, I wouldn't have used a spray can because I would have thought that the heat in the engine bay would cause problems but obviously not :)
-
Hi, no it doesn't cause a problem, because i don't fit the plenum on straight away, give it time to dry out thoroughly.
Also, the plenum doesn't really get that hot to make the paint flake off.

lol i think the problem maybe that it's right above a hot engine and its physically bolted to it also i think it's bound to get hot unless you have an automated "water pouring bucket mechanism" mounted over your engine...or your driving it in sub-zero conditions down big hills ;D

They used to do this a lot on the older fords and it never really caused any problems. I did it on three escorts with the cam covers and the heat never really bothered it. But we used to use proper car aerosols and about ten coats of laquer afterwards then let it fully dry for about a week before fitting. Generally it would last about 1 1/2 years before needing a recoat.
Well worth it if your in to a crisp clean engine bay :D

im into the idea but alot of the time cba because i get frustrated not being able to get in cracks where there's still mounds of oily cack!
-
i do like to have a good clean engine bay.
So next week, when all of my bits have turned up, i will be fitting new plugs and leads, a shiney new throttle body, and obviously my plenum.
So while all that is off, i will be giving the engine i can now get to a good clean.
Will be posting pics after the event
-
I used to clean everything but the I never seem to have the time any more. I think its mainly down to work, well that and the weather.
The sun only ever seems to come out when Im at work lol

The plenums are painted as standard......so it should be fine
