-
are you actual plod or is it out of service now?
-
Another Thames Valley Car.
they can't have many left now. :D ;D ;D
-
It's not plod spec now..... fully decommissioned and complete with battle scars....
Currently having paint applied, where required, and trim repaired/replaced, again where required.
And, no they do not have many left - think there is a 54 reg still in service locally.
FYS.
-
i just noticed the last 3 letters on the number plate :y
54 plate is very rare, i think i've seen 2, both plod, there's only a tiny number of 04 plates owned by forum members too
-
I'd save a fortune on fuel with that car. Motorway bridge, flask of coffee & watch everyone "brick it"!!! :D

Its great fun to see cars front bumpers kiss the road when they see a plod car.
Very nice car.

Very nice car.
like mine did when i noticed a marked vectra coming towards me, theres a tiny stretch of a few hundred yards of 30 limit within a few miles of 40, i'd just pulled away and floored it to nearly 40 then shat myself and slowed :D
cop didnt turn round so i think i'm alright

My car had a small 'off' whilst on active duty.......

JEEEEEEEEEEZ a 54 plate looking a bit worse for wear!!
is yours a write off too?
they'll give you a 2.8 turbo vec next :D
-
That accident happened two years ago. The other car was written off, but FYS was repaired! It was only a flesh wound.... all the wheels were pointing the right way. It's not a plod car anymore - I bought it from auction in June. It was repaired really well and looks/drives straight enough to me!

The local traffic fuzz were getting 2.8 Turbo's, but now they are getting 3.0 Diesel Vectra's - no problem out running them, in anything.....
FYS.
-
is that a vec i spy on that pic aswell??
-
it was fixed well but the mechanics said they used corsa underpinnings as the original omega ones were too wide after this
;)
-
And theres me thinking the police were highly trained drivers. :-X nice car though.

Thats the M40 just before the M25 junction. Shame to see them like that, but yours has been re-built really well.
-
Saw two 54 plate marked Omega's today on the A40 West Wycombe after a car transporter lost one of its cars. I was thinking of putting an OOF flyer on their windscreens :D
-
Ex plod cars are agreat buy. :y
-
quality smash pic
reminds me of one of those 80s hollywood films where the police always manage to smash into each other while chasing the lead characters in some ridiculously overcharged chase scene hehe
-
nice looking car a bargain has been had !!!! :y

54 plate MV6... must have been some of the last ones made?
-
Yep, think TVP bought a batch of the last Police spec cars from Vauxhall, but didn't register them for upto 12 months. Hence mine is an 04 reg and there are several 54 reg cars remaining in service, which will be retired soon!
M.
-
Police are always doing that, they stockpiled Rover SD1 V8's and Senator 24V's as well.
-
Right then my Omega friends....
My car FYS has been nicked!
From my house in Maidenhead, Berks in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Not been sighted yet - if anyone does, call it in to the Police, please and let me know.
Reward paid in beer if car located/recovered!!
Cheers,
Martin
-
theft by house burglary i assume??
it'll stand out being the Reg it is!!
-
No, no idea how they got it, still got both keys!
No break in of my house.
They also broke into my wifes Golf and stole the leather interior!!
M.
-
Might've been pinched by a nostagic officer so maybe not much use reporting it!!!! Sympathies though. ::)

Then save or save and replace current image. :y :y

Seems properly repaired and by the way I like it white miggies.
Hoping you will find it in good condition again..They cant hide
forever :y
-
Hey, thanks for the advise - picture resized!
You are right, white Omegas can't hide, but mine is doing a good job of it at the moment!!!

Gutted for you, hope you get it back in one piece. :'(
Car thieves are scum. Put 'em in with the gay sex offenders. ;D
-
Hey, hey, hey!
The Police found my car last week. It was recovered and has been inspected by SOCO Officers for evidence and I have now got it back!
It was on false plates and was found about 15 miles from where I live and had run out of fuel. It hasn't done many miles and is undamaged - just very dirty! All the 'stuff' I had in it has been nicked - torch, jump leads, etc, spare brake pads, etc, etc. They didn't steal my £150 sunglasses that were in the cubby under the light switch - useless thieves!
The false plates on the car did nopt relate to anything, let alone an Omega - but I have seen a silver Omega locally this week with a plate 1 digit different to the false plates - coincidence, I think not.
Anyway, glad to have it back. Just making plans to make it more secure and change the locks/ign and reprogram the transpoder key codes.
This is the car at the recovery agents premises.
Cheers,
Martin.

good news :y
and you are lucky nothing happened..
really nice car..so take extra precautions..

Hi guys,
Can you help me out here, advice, etc....
The issue that I have is the it wasn't stolen with keys , but there is no damage to the locks or ignition.... The Police have told me that they have had a spate of cars reported stolen without keys and they have no idea how - it appears to be Vauxhall and Scooby's upto 04 reg.
Anyway, I've got the car back! I have decided on a couple of mods which I hope will make it more secure, etc - especially as the theives still have a key or something to get into/start my car....
I have a replacement ignition barrel and key.
Also, the car has no alarm, so was going to fit a remote alarm fitted to the CDL and then use that top open/lock the car - any recommendations - don't go mad!
So that there is no door lock on the exterior of the car, I am going to fit a rear handle to the front door.
Can I get the transponders re-coded to the keys/ecu, etc so that whatever the blaggers have will no longer work on my car? Is this a Tech2 operation?
Thanks,
Martin.
-
why do i suspect its someone who works for vauxhall or has dodgy connections who work for vauxhall?
get a wheel clamp and a good steering lock like a disklock

Whatever you do consider what happens if you should suffer a flat battery.
No locks and No power sound like a bad combinattion.
-
use a new brand extra alarm which shouts loud ;D
and disable hidden, noise cutting features and buttons except the keyfob..
or some extra things like :
http://www.brandsport.com/grla-910.html
-
Yer, thanks for the comments, very constructive...
I'll risk the flat battery thanks, on the basis that it is very, very unlikely to be soooo flat that it will not pop the CDL or boot....
(oh, and here comes somebody to tell me that it happens to them on a weekly basis....)
A flat battery being a minor irritation compared to the absolute frustration and costly inconvenience (putting it mildly) of a stolen car....
Ta,
Martin.

You could wire up a connector that you can access under the car (The modern CTEK charges have connectors that you can leave permanently connected to the battery) then if the battery should ever go flat you can just plug in the charger.
-
why not just get a thacham 1 alarm and imobiliser fitted prob cost £250 ish ,but toad do a nice one et1601 i think it was fiitted to my gti before i got the miggie , guy came to the house and fitted it there and then, the fob for the alarm takes over from your key open and full closure, plus should anyone get into the car there aint anyway to over come the massively loud siren(has its own battery back up once removed from car it sounds for 20 mins) and imobiliser, also works should someone ack up or lift the car the tilt detection kicks in its a awesome pieace of kit and i saved 130 on my insurance...i will have a look and see exactly whatm was called i got fitted but it was the bolloks
-
Thanks Fifey,
I did say above that I was going to get an alarm - "Also, the car has no alarm, so was going to fit a remote alarm fitted to the CDL and then use that top open/lock the car "
So, thanks for your advise, let me know if you remember the model.
Ta,
Martin.

You want the Toad Ai606 :y Best alarm in the world. I used to fit them when they first came out.
-
ai606 :y :y :y :y :y
thats the very one ,i was just away looking and i paid 299 for it fitted and that included the removal of all the exsiting factory stuff.very good pieace off kit.
-
have a wee peek at this martin, they are selling all the extras individualy so you can get exactly the system you want. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290281132966
-
glad to see you got you miggy back martin!
concernes me a bit because something similar could happen to mine... if the engine hadnt eaten its self lol! might look into getting the standard alarm put on it as i found it a very noisey and annoying sound on the 2.6 i had which had a broken unlock button on the key till recently!
-
Yep, got it back!
Since it returned just before Chrimbo I have made a few changes to make sure it does not get nicked again. I have got a new ignition barrel and key and have had that fitted and the keys and transponders erased from the ECU and then reprogrammed (this was done on Tech2 by a very, very reliable workshop). I am also fitting a rear door handle to the front door so it will be de-locked. (Please don't replay saying 'what if you have a flat battery or un-paired key'... i'll risk it, thanks).
Gave the car a good clean on Friday and it now feels like mine again. Fitted new number plates, as the Police kept the false ones, even though mine we're still attached to them... It has got a few odd marks on it that wern't there before, but nothing significant.
I lost the plot this week and went on an Omega spending spree...... I've bought a set of facelift MV6 wheels/tyres, an MV6 front bumper and full heated MV6 sports leather trim!! (Thanks to DaveMarshall and V6 Venom!)
I must be mad..... oh well, it will make for a nicer car, I guess.
I drove the car down to pick up the seats yesterday - first time i've driven it any distance in 2 months! - and thought I should really have spent some money on brakes and lower wishbones - that'll have to be next month then!
Al's place (V6 Venom) is about 70 miles from me and I drove down in convoy with my pal (Robbie31) in the other ex-Police Omega we have - on the basis that it would be easier and less risk of damage to transport the leather seats in two cars, rather than squash it into one.... Oh, what fun we had - two Omegas in convoy, at speed, xenons ablaze!
Will post some progress pictures when I get a mo.
Cheers,
Martin.

Hi, not posted for a while....
On my way out a couple of nights ago a local taxi driver travelling towards me across the village green pulled directly across my path into a side road. Even at low speed I could not avoid him on a full ABS stop and he wiped his VW Sharran across the front of my car - bloody idiot!
The Police turned up as when I asked the driver for proof of insurance he gave me a letter from his Broker entitled 'Notification of Cancellation' - so I called the Feds down to check it out.
Anyway, it turns out he is insured, so all good. The Police Officer asked him what he thought he was doing and the guy said he didn't know how it happened and when the copper asked him again why he pulled across my path when he didn't have the right of way he said, and I quote, "Sorry, I wasn't concentrating..."
The wheels are in motion via my Insurer and the car will go to be estimated at a local repairers tomorrow. I've been offered a credit hire car like-for-like, whatever that means.... by my Insurer, but I am waiting for them to confirm that his Insurer have accepted responsibility before I accept.
I fear the Mighty ol'Omega might be written-off..... again.
We'll see....
It is doubly frustrating as the car had only just had a tidy up at a body shop and the front & rear bumpers & mirror covers were painted, plus the n/s rear quarter was repaired where rusty and painted and the wheels were refurbed. The whole car was mopped and looked mint. Luckily it was a favour through one of my suppliers at work, so financially it doesn't worry me, but annoying nonetheless.
But, I think it will be written off as a replacement headlamp is £600 from Vauxhall and it needs a bumper, wing and bonnet, plus the front of the inner wing needs straightening, so labour and paint won't be inconsiderable either....
When it was stolen from my drive nearly two years ago (an recovered, luckily) my Insurance Co were about to pay out £2k.... I bought the car two and a half years ago for £1540...
Clearly I can repair it far, far cheaper with second hand parts, which are freely available, so I'll see which way it goes and am lickely to buy it back off the other insurer if they write it off.
I'll keep you posted.
Cheers,
FYS

Sad sight, hopefull it'll soon be looking good again :y

Dont let it get written off - do a deal with the insurance co to take a cheque for the amount they will insure it up to and then go and get 2nd hand parts fitted at an indep.
I did this when my old Saab 9000 got hit by an oik in a fiesta. Took the wingmirror off and the wheel arch trim. With the paint a decent bodyshop wanted nudging 2k and the insurance would only value it at 1k, so I took a cheque and fixed it for £40 for the mirror and just pulled the arch out by hand!!

Yep, I had that in mind. Have already contacted a local guy who deals only in Omega spares, with a list of what I need.
I can sort the panel replacement and there is a guy on the farm where I share a workshop with some mates who does some spraying, so should be a cheap repair.
But, you gotta go through the motions, especially as I am claiming off the Taxi drivers insurance!
Cheers,
Martin.

Absolutely loving the jam sandwich stripes!

Absolutely loving the jam sandwich stripes!
Proper retro, eh!
yeah totally, they actually make me want to eat a jam sandwich!
I bet you could use them on the road, after all it's not as if you would be trying to impersonate the police, it's only a coloured strip, not the word 'police'. I would get some for mine but as they're nocturno blue and gold, I don't think it would look as good as if it was white like yours!
Much prefer jam sandwich to battenberg!

Seems you have had a lot of fun in the car !! and would that be some covert lights behind the grill in the last pic? ::) :)

Ha-ha, well spotted, yes for that trackday ONLY it had a dash strobe, blue strobes behind the grille and on the rear parcel shelf, which were disconnected/removed afterwards, plus h'lamp flash and rear fog flash...
We had a few 'offs' on that day which we had to sort out;

The car was collected by the body shop today, so I'll hear soon what the damage is, exactly....

Absolutely! Stillm you don't (necessasrily) have to stump up for a rare MV6 bumper, std ones are easily come by ... or is it time to slap on an Irmy big bumper???
Got to say, it does (did!) look really quite fab in white, especially with the proper MV6 wheels now. Did the plod cars run std height suspension? Looks high for an MV6 in the photo's.
Good luck.

It does have a std bumper, the Police spec cars were 'Special' not MV6. But, I'll get an MV6 bumper if I can.....
Yep, they always look high in the suspension, as, again, they are not MV6's, and had specific Police spec suspension, with specific stuts and springs - different part numbers to 'road' cars.
I understand that it is heavy duty kit and I think the rear springs are heavier poundage and longer to compensate for the Police kit tahe was carried in the boot - if I am wrong I am sure Hotel21 will be along shortly to correct me....
Cheers,
FYS.

Nice shots Good to see the hardtop is off at last

Well, it's a wrie off. Not surprised really....
More info to follow.....
Anyone got an MV6 front bumper?

Well FYS is back at the workshop I share with my buddy's. I slung the car out the back in the yard - looks like its on death row....

The inner wing needs a tweek, but it should all repair without a problem.
I have settled with the Insurance - a favourable deal, and worth the agro of repairing it myself.
More to follow.... parts needed if anyone has suitable wing, bonnet or bumper (preferably MV6)?
Cheers,
FYS.
-
a nice motor but a lot of bad luck! maybe the car is jinxed?
-
Might be worth u trying omega spares who are based in heathrow, They are on ebay if that helps.
Maidenhead taxi drivers should be forced off the road cus none of the ******* can drive >:( >:(
-
that does look a very sad state indeed now!
Hope you get it sorted quickly - check out german ebay (ebay.de) for a wider (or 'vider'!) range of omega parts (even used irmy bumpers!!!)
:y
-
Do'nt suppose the police took any action against the dozey idiot of a taxi driver!
-
Well, well, well.... It's been nearly 2 years since I posted, wow!
FYS served well during this time, mainly as a spare car, whilst I completed a restoration on an old BMW Cabrio for my wife.
Sadly I wasn't using the Omega and when plans to return it to Police spec for shows and TV, etc fell through, I couln;t decide whether to keep it or sell it. With 4 other cars to drive, and with a very reasonable offer made to purchase, form a friend or a friend, I took the cash and FYS now has a new owner. :'(
I had upgraded the front calipers on FYS to 2004 Monaro twin-piston callipers. When I sold the car I replaced the standard calipers onto the car.
Cheers,

Just read the whole thread. You certainly had a time of it with that car, but also some fun along the way :y

Is the owner on here - if not, is he going to look after it?

Yep, the car had a hard life, but they stand up to it well!
I have sold the car to a friend of a friend, he's not on here, but I know he will look after it, trust me, he'll look after it.

I have visions of you wielding a pickaxe handle while saying that... glad to hear it. :y

That wasn't what you were doing that got the posts edited. Since when has blatantly trying to sell parts been "an expression of an opinion" or a "slightly uncomfortable question" ;)
