This is the finished result of my final headlight retrofit...
The headlight contains a BiXenon FX-R Projector purchased from TheRetrofitSource, as well as the LEDs and the BiXenon stickers...
The outer shroud was painted flat black and the LEDs were mounted along the outline of it, the path I chose made the most sense as the LEDs were not long enough to go besides the turn signal area...
Here are some of the final pictures.
The lights will need some adjustment in the future but for now they are good enough.

Looks nicely done :y.

I've got to say mate ,that is one seriously smart car you've got their :y
-
Thanks all, it was a full day of work and it seems that I may have to reopen them and readjust the beams...
Otherwise I keep staring at it and the more I stared at it the more it reminded me of IronMan... and so the following picture... not a good comparison but hey...

Very very nice and much smarter looking than the new Audi led setup.
-
I like it a lot :y

I plan on going out tonight and shooting some videos of the light output but I must say these projectors are superior to anything on the market today.
I had some highly modified LEXUS RX units before and I thought those were bright and i cant believe how much difference the reflector bowl makes...
Same ballast, same bulb, but about twice as much brightness and the width can not be described in words...
It can light up 4-5 lanes on either side with equal intensity...
-
Impressive! :y
Are the led's bought as one unit or all seperate led's?

Found them on ebay as a Flexible LED strip (White) But you can pick your colors...
I think they make them in Hong Kong... and they are fairly inexpensive... few bux.
I got the 48cm strips, they sell 72cm and 96cm as well as I believe 30cm and 15cm and you can also cut them 3 LEDs at a time.

You're giving me ideas.... I wish you'd stop it ;D ;D

Sorry mate... every time I finish a project I think to myself... "ok thats the last of it!" then I see something cheap on ebay, and I go... Oh man that will look great on my car.. .and often thats how new projects get started...
You should know that I don't spend crazy amount of money on this car... everything is on budget...
-
Totally stunning!

looks good mate! :y

Well if you were wondering how good those projectors were at lighting the road here are some output shots...
NOTE: Pics were shot with 0.56X Wide Angle lens so the beam may look narrow then it really is... but at least it fits in the pictures

Bloody hell! People must be waking up at night thinking it's daytime - very impressive. Makes my HID's look like candles ;D ;D

If I were to compare these to my OEM HIDs I would say....well there is no room for comparison...

You've succeded where many fail. Some light conversions just look awful, but I think yours looks amazing...well done :y
I think all the modifications you've done to your car all fit together, and the lights certainly look good. I always thought LED's looked a bit try hard, but seeing what you've done has changed my mind.

Thank you! :)
I must say the project went through many changes and modifications before it arrived at this stage.
It has been at least a year sinsce I have been messig with them to get them to where they are at and I am happy especially at night when they overpower any other car's HIDs... ::)
I must also say Matt who is the owner of TheRetrofitSource (http://store.theretrofitsource.com/)sells these in LHD so for anyone out there that is interested in retrofitting they are 170$ and he ships overseas as well.
As far as the installation itself, it shouldn't take more then 1hr from start to finish if painting is not required.

Sorry mates I have been out of the loop for a while, I switched Internet Service Providers and now I cant get to this site, it keeps timing out...
I am at my parents house now with the same exact internet provider and PC and it works from here so their servers are jacked up....
As to answer your questions, the car is equipped with the following parts.
Philips DL50 Bulbs, intended for aircraft use, landing lights etc.
They were designed to run on 75W Ballasts, but only ones available for public use are 50W...
I have a DDM 50W Ballast powering those bulbs and the output is somewhere around 5700lm... in comparison OEM Stock 35W produces 3100lm, and if you run them at 75W you get 8500lm
Bulbs are bloody rare to find as only around 6000 were produced many many years ago and today if you find some you are golden... but the price will drive you away rather quickly.
My projectors are FX-R, copy of a compact bixenon unit found in the Infinity FX, thus the name, FX-Replica... I like to call them FX-Revollution... LOL
LEDs are a strip sold as one 48cm long and they power off of 12V source. They are only good for night use, during the day they dont put out enough lumens to be noticed like the Audis... but at dusk they put out amazing color.
Been driving for about 2 weeks now and i must ssay the performance is amazing.
The light spread is unbelievable, with a lot of light in the distance and slightly less close to the vehicle...
Was driving down the motorway yesterday and I saw the cutoff beam shine over a mile away at some street signs, where you can clearly see a sharp line bounce up and down on that sign...
From distance they look very purple/bluish with very exotic colors, and as you get closer they get blue, and then white...
I will attempt to shoot another video of night driving and that should give you an idea of how they work.

Seriously impressive work there mate :y
-
I love it! I love the way you did it! your HID is stunning dude! i also like your LED turn signal light (http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/turn_signal_light~pop.html) it is just plain and simple. Nice work!
-

you've done a much better job fitting them than some people, good professional work there :y
I am still not a fan of these LED 'running' lights though, I just feel they don't suit the Omega. But thats just me! :)
-
stunnig job, that's a sure
-
..awesome - I've just recently purchased a similar set of LED strips for my Volvo XC90 (tall rear reflector set) and had seen similar strips used for the front too.
How easy is it to seperate the lense from the casing on the Omega - last time I looked it was sealed with black sticky stuff that didn't look too keen to come apart ? Also - is it possible to activate the DRL function on the UK spec cars without having to turn on the sidelights manually ?....
I feel another Summer project coming up ::)
-
Pop them in the oven at 210°F for 6min and they should be soft enough to separate.. if not add another 2-3 min... but dont keep them there for longer then 10... you may risk melting them.
I dont know their limits...
As for the DRLs... I just found a power wire near the engine that has 12V... when engine is running so i tapped into that.. and added a switch inside... no biggie...
Let us know how it goes..

Cheers for that - certainly will. Don't hold your breath just yet though - gonna need a bit of planning to allow enough time to have the car disabled for a few days (just in case ;) ).
Cheers

Looked at links and admire projects undertaken :y Workshop definitey a benefit as it would make doing jobs that much easier. however, I have no experiences in this but wondered if uk laws accept these headlight changes? :question.
Anyone know the answer?
