This is a Opel Omega B Caravan CD 2.5 V6 I found on a field at the end of last summer.
She had been on grass for over a year at the time I purchased her.
I am only working on her in my sparetime, which she has to share with my Cavalier III, the wife's Astra and 25 young football-ladies (14-15 years) I am coaching.
First I changed the thermostat, belts and watherpump. (I did it myself, and yes, the motor still running ;) )
First look

Day of purchase. My Cavalier and a friend's MV6 in the background.

A bit filthy, but I'm working on it.

The new used leather.

Halfway mounting new headlights.

Just checking that the light is working.
Finish. Also new dark side indicators fitted.
Well, that was the begining.
As you can see I have already purchased a few extras.
Beside the leather it´s Mantzel spoilerlip, logofree grill, rear door vents and a few other things.
Hope you like it :)
-
Bloody hell! Its a different car with them headlights fitted!
Top Job! :y
-
I had an estate in that exact colour, and my bumper was stone chipped to buggery aswell, god only know why they used white primer on a dark coloured car, its a v nice colour tho. :y

Mines got a load of stone chips too :(
-
It is not stone chips all of it :(
The previus owner bumped into something with the right front corner, breaking the glass on the headlight and bend the bumper so the paint cracked. >:(

Just looking at the leather seats... They dont have the Memory buttons on them?
Or are these from a right hand drive Omega? :-?
-
The headlights look nice. Are they new units?

No, the leather seats don't have Memory buttons.
There are two versions of electrical seats, one with memory and one without. And these are without.
These are from a left hand drive Omega.

Yes, it's new units.
Bought on ebay.de for around 120€

For a car that was found in a field, that is one very nice vehicle! :y :y
I find it interesting you call these cars "caravans", as of course in Britain we call them "estates", and once they were named "shooting brakes" (used by the gentry to take hunting parties out on shooting expeditions across their estates), yet in the USA they are "station wagons". :D :D ;)
-
It's called a Caravan since it's an Opel.
Opel has used the name Caravan at least since start of production after WWII.

Thanks! :y Is that name purely for the estate version of the Omega or, what I think you have said, any Opel generally? :-?

BMW's I thought called them "Tourers", but 'common' volume British car producers like Vauxhall and Ford in the UK have called them "estates" to my knowledge and experience with my past company vehicles that were always "estates" in the brochures and in garage parlance ;D:D :D ;)
PS If you are in any doubt look at the official Omega Manual, such as page 229, and "Estate" is the name used throughout. ;) :)

Im not sure now...its either the V5 or the insurance states Tourer... :y
But yes i always refer too it as the estate.....or the ""Gorgeous black manly 4 wheeled love machine"" ;D
Its true what they say about large black ones...""when youve had black you never go back."" :)
-
Yes, Opel's are always Caravan :-/ allmost.
The new Opel Insignia should be called Sport Tourer

Thanks Onkel! Funny how these manufacturers badges "float" around various countries and follow what is fashionable. 8-) 8-) 8-)

Yeah - even over here in the UK it is called a Sports Tourer. I agree with Lizzie, it is odd how the manufacturers change things like that depending on region. :-?

I had a ford focus estate as a hire car from denmark....they called it a station wagon
-
In Denmark, the general name for this type of car is stationcar.
-
in denmark they call bacon tulip ;D
sorry ill just shimmy on out of here......

Thats OK, but not correct.
In denmark we often call bacon "røget flæsk" (smoked bacon)
-
Always loved the station wagons, BTW How do you like those DEPO lights?
How is the output on them?
-
So far I like the DEPO lights. But I haven't finished working on the car, so I haven't tried driving at night yet.
But the light is brighter and sharper (light/dark) than the light on my other (and older) cars.
Here are a few pics. of the headlight:
The distance from car to wall is aprox. 8 meters. And the camera about the same.
PS. as seen on the last pic. they are from last winter :)
-
As mentioned above, the work isn't done yet.
Because s lot of my sparetime i used training a football/soccer team (25 girls at the age of 14 to 18), I haven't had so much time to work on the car.
But, I have changed the radiator, because the old one couldn't keep the engine cold.
Due to water in the bottom of the cabin, the cabin is now disassambled. So the dampermats can get propper dry.
This is how it looks right now:

On of my friends have made these Alu. showplats.
The letters are made by a laser cutter.

Your lights look good, the beam pattern is slightly off on the one headlight and I think on the right one you need to stick a screw driver in and push the shield slightly forward maybe less then 1mm and it will even out the color.
If you have reddish orange color from up close you will get nice blue purple in the distance and if its blue from up close the color dissapears in the distance and you end up with fuzzy cutoff..

Thangs for the tips.
Forgot to write that the bulps are halogen Osram Nightbreaker H1 and H7, not xenon.
-

my goodness! that's alot of work to dry some carpets! i would have stuck a heater in it with the windows down for a few days!, nice wheels all you need to do now is drop it a few cm's
-
Nice car... it's fun taking dashboards out, isn't it!? Have you got it back in yet?
Why not take the opportunity to swap out all of that dirty cream interior? My Vectra used to have a cream interior that I spent a whole weekend trying to clean... I gave up and found some nice dark coloured Sri trim instead.
-
Well... the thing about DEPO lights is that they aren't as good as HELLA. Good luck with them next year. I'd prefer to buy Hella after regeneration, already painted on black. You'd get it for the same cash since you don't have xenon and they'd give much better light than crappy DEPO.

Well, drying is not quite enough. I found a hole, so I'll have to do a bit of welding as well.
;) And I have found a used cheap CO2.

Yes, it´s fun ::)
The interior will stay gray. And I have found a set of gray cows that fits right in ;)

Yes, HELLA lights are better than DEPO lights. But at the time of purchase, HELLA lights could only be found at a price three times the price of DEPO lights.

So I got a little further!
