I heard on the news this morning that Steve Irwin the aussie croc bloke has been killed. I feel sorry for his family but it was only a matter of time before something he upset got hold of him.
-
Sad news as the kids love his show but to me he was always playing with fire.
-
OK, maybe he did play with fire, BUT with it he bought a genuine passion and love for the animals, so although played up for the camera, the animals's welfare always came first.
A unique character, and will be missed by many of all ages.

A truly awful loss. Fantastic character who loved life to the very fullest. Will be missed for certain. I do agree though that it was just a matter of time. If you play with fire.......
I feel for his family and colleagues. Terrible tragedy.

I think he should have calmed it down a bit after the kids came. Responsibilities and all that, but when it's in your blood.....
Great shame.

Very very sad :'( Mind you, very surprising that he got away without anything happening to him before now after years of playing around with dangerous animals, but you've got to admire the balls of the guy.

Interestingly, it seems more like a freak accident than the usual risk you would expect from his profession. According to the BBC, he was stung in the heart by the Manta Stingray and was killed by the stab to the cheast rather then by the poison - and this is apparently unheard of before. One wild-life presenter interviewed today said it was more like unwittingly standing behind a horse and getting kicked, rather than any intentional risk-taking.
