well my omega is no more :'( me and the other half just came home from shopping(about 2 hrs ago),parked up in the garage and went for a cuppa.
the wife suddenly shouts that there is smoke coming from the garage, run down to find the Omega smoking like mad from under the bonnet, lift bonnet ,fire off the extinguishers and manage to put it out.
Think this is a write off as even though the pics don't show it most of the wiring, rubber, plastic has melted, bonnet is blistered, wing the same and god knows what else :'(
Insurance notified, now its wait and see :'(

Oh shite :o :o :o
What an absolute bugger mate - hope you manage to get it sorted on the insurance,
Any idea what caused it?
-
:( thats devastating mate.......really feel for you
-
Ouch, I feel for you, When I drove to Mark's this week I was in fear of a fire, due to a small oil leak.
I HOPE you have no insurance problems...
But sometimes if you extinguish a fire they will say its an electrical fault, and not pay, which I believe doesn't happen if you let it burn!
Good luck, so what you on the lookout for now?
-
FFS that's gutting.
You're very fortunate that you had an extinguisher. You're house could have gone up as well. Thankfully everyones ok. You can always get another miggy.
-
OH CRAP,sorry to hear about your loss mate,it might not be as bad as it looks, once the insurance co have seen it, steam clean it up and see if you can re build it. I AM BREAKING AN ELITE AT THE MO SO IF YOU NEED ANY THING GIVE ME A SHOUT. Sorry no engine parts but everthing else ok. :(
-
What a nightmare for you. :o So, does this mean you won't be coming to the Wales meet?
-
What a horrible thing to happen.
James is breaking an Elite so he should have some parts
-
worst of all it's just flown through it's MOT :'( just sorted all the little niggles out and given it a full valet.
I'm gutted to be honest.
-
Thats not goods news mate.. :(
-
What a bummer >:(
I hope you can sort it. Looks like it didn't do that much damage although the wiring is obviously going to be in a mess.
Insurance wise they'd probably write it off, but with parts from a breaker a DIY repair might not be impossible. Might be worth hanging back on getting the insurance involved until you know if it can be a DIY fix. Once it's written off, depending on the category, there may be no way to save it.
I'm sure there was another Omega on here a few months ago that had an electrical fire in that area, and someone else mentioned burning wiring around the power sounder (also in that area)? I wonder if there's a common failure that we can identify and prevent.

Presumably it is pre 98, and hence not positive distribution system - as these are not fused near battery, electrical fines can start due to damaged wiring looms...
-
sorry to hear about the miggy mate.. :'(
-
Aye, pretty sad :'( Did you finish your cuppa? ::) Just be thankful it didn't take your house with it.
Facelift elite on the horizon then!?! ;)
-
That's terrible, sorry to hear it.
Didn't we have one of those not too long ago?
-
i was thinkin about stuff like this a while agi, i think i would be seriously ripped apart if it happened to mine :'(
I hope insurance pays out soon enough
-
Sorry to read about the fire mate, I hope you can get it sorted, make sure if it is a right off that the insurance make you a fair settlement and not just try to offer you bottom book or traders buying value as can happen
-

:(That's a rough trot. If you keep it i can help with the bodywork & spraying. Free labour, just pay materials @ transportation. I know you're a way off but the offer's there if needed. :o
