8-) Just thought I'd say hello to everybody as the newest of the newbys, having signed up 10 mins ago. I've just bought a lovely 2002 2.2i CD auto and hope very much it will come up to expectations. I have been running a 97 Range Rover diesel and a 98 Discovery V8i auto but the Disco has been sacrificed in favour of the Omigosh. Why? Well my wife has serious physical disabilities and can no longer get up into the Disco so, a conventional car was required. But having had Land Rovers for many years it had to have character and it had to be big to accommodate Maureen's wheelchair and other stuff we have to take, even on shopping trips. The Omega ticked all the boxes, it's a one-owner car with FSH, and we're looking forward to our life with it very much. We're both long retired, live in South-West Scotland and in a previous existence I was a policeman... but don't let that put you off. The Forum is great, one of the best I've ever come across, and I have NEVER seen so many people going out of their way to help others. Best wishes all round. - Hodplod.

Welcome to the forum :y
Just keep the throttle body and breathers clean (twice a year), see Maintenance Guides, and give it regular oil and filter changes using Vx semi-synth 10/40 (I do mine every 4 months) and the car will last you a life time with little trouble.

8-) Hi everyone. Thanks to all of you for your most friendly welcomes to the forum, and thank you to Auto Addict for the 2.2 tech info, which is particularly appreciated. I can see this is all going to be great fun with some great people. And a great car, of course!

:)G'day. Hope your Mig serves you & your wife well. There's a certain campsite owner in Keswick who thinks we're all police officers!!!
I'm sure you'll hear from Hotel21 at some point. He & his wife cook a cracking chilli.
Welcome aboard. :y

Welcome to the site.
2.2 generally a decent reliable motor, if not exactly 'exciting' from a performance point of view. Ensure it is well serviced (and I do not mean by some useless dealer or the specified intervals - that will kill the car), and it should do your well.
My recommendations, service yourself, and:
Oil change every 4 - 5k
Coolant change, initially annually, then every 2 years with Vauxhall 'Red'
Brake fluid change, annually
Breather and throttle body clean, annually
Autobox ATF change (if applic), every 50k
Handbrake service, annually.
Most other stuff as per schedule.
Following above should help keep it tip-top and reliable. 2.2 does have a habit of head gasket, but you should minimise this following above advice. Its not as bad a Rover K series! Common problem is cam sensor on these - you'll know when its failed ;)
If you are able to do some servicing yourself, blag yourself a 'Trade Club' card (hhtp://www.tradeclub.co.uk) for cheap service items from your dealer.
