Question for all the auto owners out there.
Went up Birdlip hill yesterday (for those that know it), for those that dont its a very steep dual carriageway 1 in 5 i think?? with a roundabout half way up
The bit from M5 upto the roundabout a 2.0 meega estate got passed me.
Now up for a challenge of getting back pass him.... ;D
As soon as went round the roundabout, i hit sports mode and floored it.
I got pass the Omega 2.0 easily :D but my meega was doing 6k revs.....i held it there but it didnt change gear....still fairly steep tho.....it was only when i turned off sports that made it change
So how high will it go in sports mode b4 changing?....it must rev limit at about 6.5k i would have thought :-/ Does it change then....when it hits the rev limiter?
Cheers
PS i apologise to AA for treating a 2.2 like this ::) shocking behaviour i know :-[

I know Birdlip Hill well, super climb, overtaking in the centre lane.
Anyway, since I fitted my Acme Rubber Crankshaft, mine now revs to 25,000. :-?
It's also improved the petrol consumption, 84 mpg!
0-60 in minus 3 secs.
Had to fit a parachute on the back to help with the braking. 8-)

Mine seems to hold the gear virtually to redline before changing I think.
70+ on the bypass and switch off and it will then change to top.

Do you have a link for that AA, wouldn't mind one of those ::)

Birdlip Hill, that reminds me, many years ago when I owned my Sennie, a Toyota Supra overtook me before the hill, I flicked it into sports mode, set the suspension to sports mode as well, and went after him.
Took him up the hill before the roundabout.

Mine will go nearly to red line - then changes up like it or not.
Birlip was local to me - I chickened out at 110 on my GSX600 when it started wheel spinning.
It was blocked once when a low loader carrying a Diesel loco (50017 Rodney) to the local preserved railway snapped its prop shaft
Blew out 3rd gear syncro on the Carlton on the hill as well.
One of a few hills my highest speed is up

I struggled up that hill in a Mk III Cortina many times! 25mph at the pub (Air Balloon?) in 2nd gear :-[ I've seen a few bad smashes too, years ago you could use the middle lane to down the hill too - it doesn't work when 2 cars use the same lanes in opposite directions. :o
-
I am surpeised how many people have used this hill!
-
My company has a radio transmitter on the top!
As for red line. Don't know. Didn't realise there was a red line. What's it for?
Actually, similar symptoms occur with cruise control on, but overridden with manual acceleration.

You hooligan AA ;D .....best stick to 30 on the inside lane these days ;D

Doesnt suprise me there arent more....even tho downhill is limited to one lane now.....middle lane going for it uphill inches away from cars hurtling downhill :o
-
So it seems then.....when going for it in sports mode....it will nearly red line before changing.
Cheers everyone..... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
Oh except AA's whose rev counter goes fully round nearly 4 times b4 it red lines ;D

Well on the 2.2's, AA will correct me if im wrong....or God Tunnie....but im pretty sure it means you about to hit the sound barrier ;)

These sound great !!!!!!!
Is it possible to use them in conjuction with the self retracting pistons and valves that automatically kick in when the cam belt assembly fails?
My company" Bodgit Reckit and Shagit" are developing a total concept engine that will get newer the more miles that you put on it. Yes a very similar system to that altready employed on most of the Vauxhall range. :-/

My 98 MV6 will go to 6750 if floored (Sport or normal).
The project goes to around 6000rpm in normal with full kickdown, 6500 in sport

Normal driving for you then Jaime ;D
It was the first time ive ever taken it over about 4.5k revs....and the EML was on...and it wasnt rev limiting it :-?
-
Mine just keeps revving until the limiter kicks in .... or I use the clutch and gear lever ;D
-
When I had the Sennie, I used to tow a caravan, used to overtake loads up Birlip Hill.
I've quietened down a bit since then.
The Carlton 3.0ltr 24v Gsi would take Birdlip in 5th no probs. (Yes I know, it was a manual).
