Good Morning Chaps,
I've been lurking for a while as been fancying a Mega for some time, any way yesterday I did just short of a 800 round trip for one. some people may say I was mad doing this for R reg motor with star ship milage but I've always loved doing some thing diffrent.
I saw it on ebay as classfied add, for £800 , 12 months test & 6 months tax. Had a little barter with the guy and the phone and got a nice chunk off, but said it was a "elite" when it was clear it was a CDX, so I wait till I got there to point this out and got some more off the price, then during the test drive smoke came out from under the bonnet...
Yeah bad sign I know, the seller says "Must be the rocker covers, its common" so more cash off...
I used to be a grease monkey a few years ago and can tell the diffrence between burning oil and plastic... a cable tie was touching the manifold, so that was easy :)
Any way after a drive back to grim North Wales it made better MPG than my mondeo... so I guess might end up using it more often then I planned.
Couple of thing I need to sort, the car has a multi changer but the head unit (500 some thing) is showing safe so I asume its goosed now, but I have the chance of the Radio / car phone head unit, will this work with the CD changer and the disply ?
Any way thought I was say hello and a thankyou for the months of old threads I've been reading :)

Morning & welcome. You may wana PM Dave at DND Services, he's very good with stereos. His advice is 2nd to none :y
He may be around later.

Hi and welcome to the forum :y

hello and good morning to you. :)

Welcome to the site, and thanks for signing up at last ;)
The stereo, post up in ICE section. But CDR500 doesn't have CD Changer. CCR600 (more likely in a 98 CDX) has a CDC2 in the boot. SAFE just means it needs code entering.
The phone CCRT700 needs a new display and a different CDC2 (yes, there are different, incompatible types!)
-
Thanks for that, I'll check it's model and start a new thread over in the ICE section, need to give her a clean in a bit any way, Wind, Rain, snow and sea spray have made her a dirty girl already :(
Mind you, had the mondeo serviced more often than its been washed... must be 2000 miles since the last time it was washed

Hi and welcome. Sounds like you'll need your grease monkey skills. BTW I'm never sure whether that term is supposed to be insulting to monkeys or to vehicle mechanics ;)
PS You've only got to try 10000 codes to get the right one on the radio. On a slightly more helpful note - sounds as though you prob. don't have an owner's manual for the car. I know you can always ask people on this forum, but I've made good use of mine, which I got off of fleabay for about £3.

I've got all the manual's for the motor, and the service history for the last 190'000 miles... like reading war and peace :)
