Title: HBV, be wary!
Post by: Bo Bo on 29 July 2007, 14:29:50
This is a pic of the HBV bought from Vauxhall four weeks ago which failed less than three weeks later.

(Sorry about the quality, I took them on my phone).

doesn't look like a genuine part, unless they've revised it.

I had probs with one that looked like that, too  :'(

Had a good look around this time, took inlet off to check bridge and hose to HBV, all seem ok so it looks like it was a dodgy HBV. Looks like the dealer is selling non genuine HBV's  >:( The one Bo Bo got a few weeks ago was in a plastic bag and not in the GM box as was the one i bought yesterday. I do believe Mr Bo Bo is going to make a complaint tomorrow  ;)

The one I bought on Saturday was in a GM box.  (although anyone could have stuffed an aftermarket one inside.

BoBo/Timbuk - what was your techniques for changing it?   In still struggling to get one wiper off :'(

Some people do use a puller, but i have always managed to get them off in the end, try and keep the bottom part of the arm square to the spindle if you know what i mean , pressing it down usually helps. Just keep ragging it and it should come off. Have also shocked it with some boiling water in th past but watch the screen  ;)

Timbuk,

Was wipers/scuttle off enough for you?

I'll have another wiggle tonight...

I think some on here have done it with just the wipers & scuttle off but it's much easier if you remove the plenum.

As for the wipers; I find they come off easily if you press down gently where they're hinged & give them a "wiggle" as you put it.....

Well I finally got round to taking the HBV back to Vx yesterday  ::) & of course without the receipt they wouldn't even entertain me  :(

After a bit of moaning I managed to get 5ltrs of coolant for £8.50 rather than £11.60  :)

My two local Vx dealers sometimes fits non-Vx items, mainly pads, discs, and pad wear sensor. Apparently they are allowed to this (the car was even still under warranty). But at least the invoice stated clearly that the parts were non-Vx, although they did not warn me about this in advance.

But when you buy spare parts, that depends... if you just spesify 'HBV Valve', then I guess they can give you whatever they have... on the other hand if you specify the Vx P/N and got a non-Vx one, this is clearly out of order.

I've done mine, by only taking the scuttle off. Was a bit of a fiddle but only took 20 mins all in.

Read a "how to", had a good look with a light and got on with it.
