hi all though i would register as looking to buy and omega soon.
i want an estate but the question is with the price of fuel 2L or 2.5L
i want a manual car so can any one tell me the mpg these should return? particularly round town?
or could anyone tell me if i could fit my medium frame bike in the back of a saloon - after taking the front wheel off and putting the back seats down?
thanks

Hi Chopper and welcome to the forum.
There isn't much difference between the 2.0 and 2.5 on MPG as the 2.0 has to work harder to get a heavy car moving. I think your right going for a manual as it will be more economical than the auto.
I dont think you would get a bike frame in the back of a saloon is there is a oval cut out in the panel between the rear seats and boot rather than the being totally open when the seats are down, if you know what I mean ::)

Hello and welcome --- as for ecomony -- there is always the LPG route -- have a whizz around the forum, lots of info on pros and cons :y

thanks for getting back to me so promptly - im on a bit of a budget looking to spend about a grand at the max, so i think most LPGs i have seem will be out of my range. There are two manuals near me on autotrader (estates) a 2L gls and a 2.5 CD - what MPG would i get from the 2.5? as that is the size engine i ideally want.
Im sure i saw someone on here quoting 19mpg round town for a 2.5L - is that about right?

Hi Chopper and welcome to OOF. :)
19mpg is about what I get around town in my 3.2 MV6 Estate and around 26mpg on a run. You should be able to get between 25 and 32mpg or more from a 2.5 depending on driving style and conditions.

could get 2 mountain bikes in my old A cdx, front wheels out! Took 2 people to jig them in tho. Got a an elite now with bose amp which may well make 2 bikes difficult, as the amp hangs down from the parcel shelf. Not tryed it in new car yet. V6 18 accross town is quite normal, 26 27 on motorway doing 70 to 90.

any advances on round town mpg for a 2.5? ;)

Hi and welcome to the forum :y
I have an MV6 Saloon which is a 3.0 auto.... around town doing 24mpg ish... the best I have had, was going on holiday which was 32.2mpg and that was fully loaded..
As for the boot I think you would be suprised how much you can actually get into a saloon boot..... when we have all our camping gear waiting to be packed I still cant believe it all goes in :-?

Hi chopper666, welcome to the forum.

thank you every one! i have had 14 or so cars since i passed my test in late 2003, so have been on various forums. I must say so far that this is the most welcoming. i said in my first post that i dont even have an omega yet, but i have had plenty of hellos and lots of answers to my questions :) thanks all

i need to get cycles in the back, so unless any other owners come up this pearls of wisdom, its an estate im looking for.......

Hi and welcome to the OOF :y
You could always go the route of a towbar mounted cycle rack or at a push a roof rack.
was just a thought
