Title: Noob soon to take ownership
Post by: i260 on 26 May 2009, 18:31:02
Greetings!

I will soon be taking ownership of a mint 2.6 CDX on a '53 plate. It is currently my dad's who has had it from 9 months old and rather than let it be p/x'd for peanuts I am having it to replace a rather disapointing Jetta 140tdi.

Pics of the Mig to follow soon.

Not sure of the exact plans but the exhaust started blowing last week and the tyres are on the way out so a stainless system and some 18's could be in order!!  ;D

Will be posting up loads of questions in the relevant section about tuning and handling as I am a nutter for this sort of thing!

Good site - keep up the good work all  :y

So, finally go it!

Will put some decent pics up on the Gallery when it is washed n polished!

Despite my dad owning big VX's since the mid 80's and haveing had 4 Carltons and 4 omegas (3 V6's!) I have never actually driven one (who buys a car without having driven one, eh?). First imperssions are that it is a nice old lazy thing. Perfect for cruizing the M4 but not so good for the twisty bits - deffo needs some suspension tightenning up if I am to keep it. The throttle response is fab after a dsg tdi VW ( :P) and the enging note with the blowing exhaust is to die for  ;D

Overall, uber cool  8-)

Thanks Zulu, but why does i260 state: "First imperssions are that it is a nice old lazy thing. Perfect for cruizing the M4 but not so good for the twisty bits"?  We all know with that engine and good use of the gearbox what can be done...........zoooooooooom!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;) ;)

Twisty, windy country roads....great! 8-) 8-)

Depends what you have come from I spose. It is the slowest car I have had for some time. Bit slower than my Jetta, a lot slower than the modified Golf V5 on coilovers and way slower than the Saab areo (must be getting old, the cars are getting slower!). Going back to a 4spd non tip tronic is also a bit weird - makes shifting a bit clumsey. Bit disconcerting how the shifter moves about a bit over bumps / speed bumps etc... think some mountings may need changing.

Don't get me wrong, loving it, but it is gonna take a bit of getting used to, but nice to know that are a few options about to improve it.

Cheers!

ps - yes, it is a good example!
