Title: dashboard light

hi everyone i didnt think id be putting a post on here so soon after buying my2001 mv6 estate but an orange light has come on on the dash itsays in the handbook that theres something wrong with the emissions or electronics or engine management and to take it to vauxhall is this a major problem as the car still drives ok and to think ive only had it a week thanks for any help.
