Title: Crash in Vectra
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 02 September 2007, 08:01:31
On the way home from Tunnie's last night, I had stopped at a red traffic light in two lane traffic, at the Banbury M40 roundabout.  Then suddenly a screech of tyres - some lunatics were racing around, and a highly modified Astra lost control and smashed straight into the back of me before I could do anything about it :'(

Not been your week james!

I hope you are ok?????

Did they stop? Did you call police? (motoring offences)?

Is the car bad?

how are you though?

why people can't take more care is beyond me, if they were racing around, which they shouldn't have been, then they deserve a slap!

its not much consolation but a car can be replaced, you or parts of your body cant , however it is an inconvienence having to sort ot alternative transport

I'm fine thanks mate, a tiny bit shaken, but was able to laugh it off! Few aches and pains where my knee hit the steering column, and neck aches a tad, but certainly nothing of concern.

The Vectra - came off VERY well. Bit of bumper damage is all that's visible. I will thoroughly inspect it though.

We didn't call police, as there was no obstruction. He knew he was at fault and gave me his details. However he's offering to settle the cost of my repairs out of his own pocket. HE assures me he IS insured (I took his reg) but tells me a claim would kill him.

Given I want Veccy gone asap, and there appears to be minimal damage that I can't fix, I'm considering this option. I will however, get my local (very trusted) garage, to get it on the ramps and give it the all clear, before I let it go to a new buyer!

His insurance would go through roof - like £1000 more if modified - he may not have told his insurers

James it might be an idea still to go through your insurance.... if they consider the cost of repairs to out value the car then you could be on a winner if they decide to write it off.

The guy i bought my 2.0 Omega saloon had someone run into the back of him couple of weeks before i bought it....just made a tiny and i do mean tiny dent in the bumper trim, his insurance wrote the car off as the other side was paying (£1300 for an old L reg) Cat c.

So £££ wise it might be worth speaking to insurance company...personally id not give a stuff about the other guy as it sounds he was driving like a dick,if his insurance goes up serves him right.

They'll never write it off for a dent in the boot lid and a bumper damage, on a 51 reg car though.

There is a flaw in that idea.

1) I had 2 NON FAULT accidents the year before last, as a result, many insurance companies won't go near me. So I don't need another against my record.

2) Veccy has just failed it's MOT, one of which for a safety related suspension component. While my current MOT is still valid, I'm not sure the insurance would be overly impressed if they knew this.

3) I want the car sold, and the money to fund an Omega. I could wait for weeks for insurance to go through.

Errrr... don't be so sure it is still valid. If it has failed an MOT test I believe that means it now has not MOT.  :-/

Pretty sure the old one is still valid, but as stated on the MOT form it is no guarantee that the car is roadworthy, and seeing that you know of a fault that would cause an MOT failure, it could be argued that the car is knowingly not roadworthy :-/

I think it's unlikely they'd dig into such details for a minor non-fault accident, but I do agree with James in that it's a lot of hassle to go through when you may not come out of it better off anyway.

If a new MOT has been performed on a car, even if the old one is still current then this will override the old one..... unless it hasn't been entered on the new system at each stage.... which of course never happens  ;) ;) ;)

The mechanic who has always done mine won't enter the details on the system if he already knows it will fail, allows me time to get it sorted as I take it in a week early usually.

I was gonna suggest also going through his insurance purely for the sake of his stupid a$$ driving, but if it's gonna do you no favours then i see your way of thinking!

cant claim for whiplash without an insurance claim tho can ya?
