We will all say the same when the time comes for clearing the attic..I find it easier to move and leave everything there for the new residents... ;D

In my old house the loft access was by placing a step ladder underneath the square hole in the ceiling, then pushing up a huge wooden plank which was essentially a trap door that hinged upwards to the upright position (from memory it was around 3'x2', and half an inch thick).
Well one day I climbed up, I was halfway in i.e. my upper body was inside the loft but I was still standing on the ladder, when I felt something hitting me on the head and I fell off the ladder... I fell backwards and managed to half-grasp onto a doorway, and also my bare feet straddled the ladder on the way down so the fall was slowed down. But fall I did, and I found myself lying in my back on the floor with a serious headache and two badly bruised ankles.
You guessed it, the wooden plank that was the door just slammed on my head... could have been much worst though.
Anyway, glad that you got your loft sorted! :y
