I have just under the bonnet of my megga for a general poke around and clean up (about two cans of carb cleaner) to try and see why this motor seems to be alot less powerful than my last 2.5.
I have been looking aty the multiram set up checked all the pipes etc and it all seems to be in order no spilt or ripped pipes but i can not see any parts of the multiram working at tick over or at high revs (i belive this i why i have a lack of power.
I have done a search on here on how to check the operation of it but still nothing seems to do anything my eml light is not lite up but does take awhile to go out some times (about 2secs) and now and again breifly flickers does this mean anything :-?
maybe it needs turning on with a tech2 device which i dont have :(
can any one help???

Have a look at this thread.....it may be of help

cheers
-
got to pop out now but i will try the sucking part later on.
they operate freely by hand so like that thread says it might be a number things then? orings etc etc
i will pop the bonnet again later on
-
Also be worth checking vacuum pipes are on the correct way round.....this seems to be a common prob
-
just been back under the bonnet and tried sucking the relavent pipe but still no movement of the multirams.
does anybody have any pics of how the pipe work should be routed, just in case some one put mine back together wrongly
-
You need to suck on the actuator side of the soleniod....
-
In looking for something else....i came across this by Mark.....this may help you also

hi again
just had my scuttle off again to check why my multiram system does not work and so far all seems to be ok, i am now at a loss with this, so i my well have to take it to a garage would it be better to take it to my best local garage and try to explain what i think is wrong or am i better to take it vx.
or would any off you members with tech2 be willing to help to see if it is even turned on

Do the multirams move freely if moved by hand?
Using a short length of vacuum pipe, can you actuate the multirams by sucking directly on the vacuum pipe going to actuator...
-
they do move freely by hand both the front and rear valves, i have tried taking off the thin white vac hose going to the front actuator and sucking that hard makes the front valve move,
i cannot see which hose goes to the rear one? will try again tomorrow (my times very limited)
what is the vacum tank is that the black box with the black and white thin pipes going to it on the front of the engine?
-
The rear is right at back of plenum, and has a short U shaped rubber hose between actuator and solenoid.
Does is suck through (ie split diaphram) or does it feel 'blocked'
-
so the rear actuator has a rubber hose rather than a thin plastic hose then because all i can see near the rear one is a sort of S shape of hoses
but all them hoses do feel very stiff i will dig around the rear again tomoorow. cheers for your reponse THE BOY
-
Yes, rear is a very short U shaped rubber hose. It goes from actuator (just under 4 rubber hoses at rear of plenum to solenoid valve on right of plenum.
-
sorry for the late reply to my own thread. :-[
I have checked the pipe on the rear multiram actuator by sucking on the pipe with a lengh of thin vac hose and i can now see the ram open and close so i know now that both diaphrams are ok,
i have changed around the two pipes on the vacuum tank at the front of the engine as they seemed to be the wrong way round (one seemed too tight in its path and other to loose if you get what i mean) and they were twisted over.
so i am now hopeing it all works but i still can not see the rams open when i rev the engine by hand, if it is still not working what other areas should i start checking
-
Switch on engine, let it run for a mo, then switch off. Wait 30s. then unplug the vacuum at the flap solenoids (vac reservoir side of solenoid this time, not actuator side). You should get a significant hiss, proving the vac system is holding a good vacuum...
-
Hi
i have allready tried that by mistake when i changed the pipes round on the front vac res i changed them back over after a short run to see if there was any differance (not that i could tell), when i changed them back over again to there new posisions there was a good hiss for about a second or two so that must be a good sign that the system is holding pressure anthing else i could try?
i have read some where that the multiram only operates under load is that perhaps why i can not see the system working? but still the engine does still seem alot down on mid range grunt compared to my last one :(
-
There is a post in FAQ or Maintenence Guides that is an extract from Vx v6 manual that explains when valves open.
With the help of this, you should be able to see the flaps moving.
Or get a Tech2 do the valve test to see them move - but thats expensive and lazy ;D
-
i think i have read that post is that the one marks_dtm included? that made some sense,
perhaps my system is working because when i give it some wellie there is a big change in the intake note ie a big roar or is that just normal,
i have the tis 2000 gismo but not the tech 2 reader how much do you charge for tech2 testing ;) ;)
-
I am less than half the price of a dealer for tech2 diagnosis, depending on what you need doing. But multirams dont need tech2 to test really ;)
Bear in mind that rear one should be open at idle and closed mid range, that one should be easy to see. The front, you need to blip the throttle up to around 4k...
