Hi, I have bought a used key fob off ebay, it is the two button type, one above the other, and with the chrome bar at the top for attaching to the key ring. My question is this, what do I need to do to get it work with my car, a 1999 CDX 2.5?

A dealer..I think :(
Maybe these guys could help

is the key blank? That just needs to be cut.
If not you need to take it apart and have a new key bit put in (metal bit)
Do you have the "CarPass" ? This should have been supplied with the car and is a credit card sized peice of paper, it has a load of numbers on it which are specific to your car.
You need this to get any remote programmed to you car, if you don't have this you need to go to a Vx dealer with your V5 log book and get a car pass. Basically they contact Vx and it takes a few days to get the details...

...and will set you back around 15 quid, just for the pass. >:(
The fob will need to be Tech2'd. ::)

It's just the remote part, I am going to attach my key off the old remote. I didn't get the CarPass when I bought the car, are they expensive from Vauxhall? Also any idea what Vauxhall charge to program the remote?

As kev said the pass is about 15 quid and programming is about 40 quid, but remember dealer prices vary or if there not sure they will just make it up ;)

If you have your old blade with the chip in place you should be able to syncronise the key to your car itself. put key in igniton turn to position 1 press the door open or close button for a few seconds. to confirm syncronisation the door should lock and unlock. worth a try before taking it to Vx.

Thanks for the info lads, will try the synchro later, nothing to lose by giving it a go eh!

Yep give it a blast, no harm in trying. Let us know how you go. ;)

Alas, syncronising will not work. The remote fob needs to be programmed to the car via Tech2 (or similar locksmith tool), and will need the 4 digit immobiliser PIN from the carpass.
Dealer prices vary, but my local is £30 + VAT for carpass (bloody crooks) and £45 + VAT for the Tech2 bit.
Thank god I own a Tech2!

30 quid for a car pass, did he have a mask on?

I know. Disgraceful. Crap dealer, even by Vauxhall's normal low standard. Con merchants, and the service manager is a lying git, as confirmed by his own staff >:(
Can you tell what I think of Crownhill Vauxhall/Evans Halshaw in Milton Keynes?

Petrol, and a bit of lit rag hanging out the top.... ;D

Not quite as subtle as filling it with your own concentrated morning after the night before urine and resealing it!
