Hi Guys,
I am looking for som help if possible.
I have just purcased a 1998 Omega Elite Auto - Mot failure :-9
Thought it was too good to miss but having a problem with the head lights
The drivers side dipped beam does not work.
I quickly but carfully swapped the working bulb but still nothing.
It does mention on the computer that the dip beam is not working (or somthing similar)
Does anyone have a couple of pointers to try?
Thanks in advance
Adrian

You getting Beam/Fld error on computer? That is related to self levelling. The bulb should still come on though.
I suspect duff earth or something unplugged ;)
Warning: HIDs use very high voltage, and the system can store lethal charges. Be a little careful what you touch ;)
HID bulbs are around £80 each, so treat those with respect as well...

Swapped the bulbs accross (with a working bulb) and still does not work.

The bulb not working could be feed or ballast. As you are getting Beam/Fld error on comp (presumably) I would suggest, as said, earth or feeds...

Not that I know much about HID but could this be caused by a dead power pack?

Highly recommended ;) Judging by what Theboy mentions in his post.

Look under teh headlight and you will see the drive unit for the HID bulb, it will ahev a large high voltage wire to the bulb housing and a further plug which is the 12V feed.
Unplug the 12V feed and check for 12V when the headlight is turned on.....
if 12V is present and the blulbs have ben proven by swapping them over then its a reasonable assumption that drive unit/ballast/power pack is faulty. You could try swapping the one from the other side to prove this but, its fiddly.
if no 12V directly across the two terminals then measure between each pin and battery 0V (neg). If 12V can be measured on one of the pins then there is an earth fault.....if 12V can not be measured from either pin to battery neg then there is a supply fault...check all fuses and wiring etc.
