Title: Trip computer accuracy
Post by: theolodian on 16 October 2006, 14:28:48
Has anyone else checked the accuracy of their trip computer?  Mine is a mini-facelift Elite.  I measured over several fill ups.  The computer said 28.8 gallons used, and 27.2 mpg.  The receipts said 30 gallons used, and based on the trip computer's recorded mileage that gives 26 mpg.  That's 4% optimistic.  Not too bad, but what has anyone else seen?  How accurate is the mileage?

Mine was around 1 - 2 mpg out.  Adjusted via Tech2 to be more accurate, but lots of things are going to cause inaccuracies over time...

Generally, if programmed for correct car, accurate enough, but not spot on...

I hardly ever reset my computer Theo, last time I had a quick work-out with the figures (in my head), I reckoned it was way out. I'm talking over 800 miles and 20 odd gallons so it should have been quire accurate...but it wasn't.

PS..Tunnie and TB, my stop watch is at 182 hrs now ;D

Who cares - you know it's going to burn a lot of petrol even if you are nice to it  ;D

I only trust my computer as the petrol stations are most of the times not very well calibrated which means that you pay for 30 liters you get 28.

I think you will find petrol stations are very very well calibrated ..they have to be (unless they want a very big fine) every pump will have been checked and the meter sealed..if in doubt talk to trading standards!.  :y

I only trust the needle on the fuel guage, when it hits the notch before the red I fill up. Been caught out before.
