The MID has just started saying that it needs brake pads.
Now i remember something about MID's complaining if the 'right' new ones aren't fitted
are sensors separate or something with these?
Also does it check all wheels or just front or rear?
and how urgent should this be taken? is this a change em now, or within a 500 or so miles?
as Ive no trade card yet, any advantages to Genuine over pattern pads?
really need to join a vboa club asap.
Cheers

General advise is go for genuine. My car came with Halfrauds pads up front (still to be changed) and it's not great at stopping in a hurry!

The pattern ones I've put on are rubbish. Stick with Genuine.
Best way to check how much is left on them is to visually check.

Hi, as stated, genuine are best, although I have had Ferodo fitted for some time now and they seem to do all that I ask of them. The sesors are separate, and the chances of removing them from the pads without the pin breaking off are very slim, they become very brittle with the constant heating and cooling. There are no sensors on the rear, only the front.

aaaahhh, so in stead of shorting the wires together :-[ I should order the contacts as a separate item?
Do you think I could retro fit them to the pads that have not long gone in? Are they available in motor factors or only from vauxhall?

I'm currently running on Ferodo pads and they seem fine but there is little saving against GM pads so I'd go for whatever is easiest to get you hands on.
If your pads have not been on long then there will not be too much crud around and you should be able to get the sensors in.
In my experience, Delphi/Lockheed (who I think make the sensors for GM) will be cheaper than the dealer and just as good. Just make sure that they sell you the right ones from your motor factor. Get them to cross check them against the caliper make and the disc size to make sure they are right. I was sold the wrong ones (forgot to get them to check....) From memory the sensors for the 296mm discs (which I think are for anything bigger than a 2ltr and even 2lts after some magical date) are ceramic whereas the others look black all over.
Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure there is a set on ebay for a few quid at the moment
