Helloooooooooo !!!
OK reverting back to the " oil level" thread the other day !
It was confrimed , by members on here, that the 4 pot Omegas take 4.5L of engine ( with filter change) as per the written data in the users manual !
OK , serviced the Omega this morning. drained oil, new filter etc, and 4.5 L ONLY comes half way up dipstick !
As we know between min and max on dipstick is 1L, then i was 1/2 L short !
Got 5L in it and its reading MAX on dipstick !
Whats even stranger is i have gone back through the very compreshensive service records of the car ( all nine of them ) all except one service receipt shows 10 units of oil used ( 1 unit = 1/2L ), the odd one shows 9 units ( 9 x 1/2 L = 4.5L )
Urmmmmmmmmmmmm anyone else !!!!
Engine is a Y22XE ( if that makes any difference ) !
I'm convinced somethings a miss here :-/
Cheers
Mark

I'm fairly certain we only put 4.5l in Tunnies' 2.2, hopefully he can confirm that though, as I've slept many times since then.....
-
I'm sure you did Jamie, as Tunnie replied to the other post ( Oil Level) saying 4.5 L inc oil filter change !
But to reitterate ( ohhhhhhhhhh BIG word LLOLL ) 4.5L comes halfway up my dipstick, and also the service records of my car confirm that 5L ( or 10 units ) was used in previous oil changes apart from one which shows 9 x units = 4.5 L !!!
How odd !!!! :o
-
Maybe different sump or something like that? Or wrong dipstick?
-
VERY much doubt it Jamie !
The car was a one owner before i had it, and EVERY receipt for work done on it is with the car !

Well something is different. Dipstick is probably most likely I reckon...
-
OK just found out that there are two different sump pans, and two different dipsticks !
Mainly the difference is between multi function display cars and non multi function display cars !
As Tunnies and TD's cars are both CDX's and mine is a GLS , maybe a possible answer !
Anyone else with a 2.2 GLS !!!!

Tunnie's is a CD, but that would still have a full MID IIRC... ...I guess yours has a TID?
Wondering if you have wrong sump/dipstick combination...
-
Just checked, one dipstick replaces other...
-
Urmmmmmmmmmmm if the sump pan, dipstick combination is wrong, then it must have been a factory bugger up !
First service has 10 units of oil as being used ? and so on and so forth !
-
My 2.2 takes 5L with a filter change!
-
If you jack up the front offside slightly with the drain plug out you get another 1/2 to 3/4 of a litre drained out of the sump.
-
Thank god for that, was beginning to worry !
I must confess the car wasnt exactly on a flat surface when draining the oil !
I always do mine on a slight slope so oil drains out better !
Cheers for confirming your car takes 5L Auto Addict, i'm not so parranoid now LLOLL :o
Also manged to drain off 6.5 L of coolant via the tap under the wheel arch, never have got this amount out before ! Just about 5L ish on other changes !
Cheers

No, you obviously didn't drain all of the old oil out.
-
No, you obviously didn't drain all of the old oil out.
Oh, believe me, we went to a lot of effort to get all oil out, as it really was in a state...
-
But as Auto Addict says, if the car was completely on the flat, maybe not all the oil came out !!!!!
But i'm just gald someone else has filled his 2.2 up with 5L .
Anyone else !!!

We did put a little oil in the filter before attaching it, but it was not as much as 1/2 litre
-
Not a 2.2 but I had to go and buy another litre of oil so I could get from half to full on the dip stick.
5 litres for me too.
-
Hey Miked, i'm feeling better everytime someone says they used 5L in there 4 pot !! :P
Did you have a 4.5L bottle of oil then !!! :o
-
yep, bought 4.5 litres. Emptied as much as I could get out, changed the filter, then re-filled. When I checked the dip stick, only half way up :-?
-
That makes sense. My 2.0 always needed 5 litres to get bang on the max mark. Same with any other 2.0 omega I've known.
Don't worry about it, you'll be fine with 5 litres
-

The garage does mine when its up on ramps, so level.
The dont use all the 5l i give them, not sure if its .5l left but always have some left.
-
Cheers for all the replies.
Above all i just wanted to get any / some reaction to having to use 5L to get it to register Max on the dipstick.
Looks like it depends on how you drain the oil off from your car !
Either way i have also mentioned this other car owners ( not Vauxhall) and some ( most) have reported that they use different amounts of oil compared with another owner having the same veichle !
Its all usually around the 1/2 litre + or - , urmmmmmmmmmm strange !!!!!
Never mind, i think we can put this to bed now, and i can stop worrying about weather i have over filled etc
Cheers to all

Changed my oil and filter this morning, took 5L.
-
Cheers AA , thats good to know.
I was really scratching my head over this one, but as it took all 5l, to register on the dipstick, i couldnt see what i had done wrong !!!
Cheers

Your engine is greedy then AA....mine doesnt ;D.....but then i guess you jacked yours up a bit to get out all the oil ;)
-
Engine hot, jack up front offside wheel (supported by axle stand), removes most of the oil.
-
Engine hot, .
My local garage mechs always burns their hands when engine is hot ;D i just have a coffee and grin ;D
