Title: mv6 newbie- just bought a ex police omega estate
Post by: john146 on 30 October 2006, 12:18:34
I have just bought a 2001 mv6 omega estate. It is an ex police model.
This being the case there are gaps in the dashboard and holes in the
door panels. Does anyone know where I can get a cheap replacement for
these and can I upgrade the computer? As it only has one setting. On
my old cdx it had a range of options actioned via the stork. Would it
be possible to upgrade the dash to a higher spec?

Please excuse my ignorance as I am new to this game, but I have
friends who are happy to help with the work I just need some guidance.
I can send photos if it helps.

thanks
John

For replacement panels, try someone breaking a car.

For computer, I believe you need much more than just screen, not sure how much though...

Hi and thanks for all the welcome messages! More dash questions.

I think there was a  DOUBLE DIN HEAD UNIT originally fitted on the car.
Here is a photo of my dash.  http://www.is6.co.uk/mydash.jpg I think it should look like this http://www.is6.co.uk/elite_dash.jpg though this photo shows an elite model.

It appears I have two choices replace with a vauxhall radio- is this expensive? or I could use a product such a this http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=659 which will fill in the blank. I then can look in scrap yards for an astray and other damged bits.

Any comments or ideas?

Thanks
John

I had exactly the same issues

Found a CDR 2005 on ebay for £75 and got that

It took 5 months to find a replacement Ash Tray in a breakers (well Cav9_4) got it for me.

If you are in no hurry then try and get the proper parts. It will look better in the long run.

Don't buy new from Vauxhall though as it will cost you a bomb.

wow good picture of the Plod dash there, i didn't realise they didn't have steering wheel controls!  :o

My advice is go single DIN with that conversion plate... i tryed a the Double DIN route and it just looks awful!!!

Get a nice single DIN alpine unit, they sound fantastic!  :)

Hi, your pics look the same as mine although I do have radio controls on the steering wheel.

Good luck with the search
