Title: Coolant Low

MID is saying coolant low, but it isnt :(

This is on a 2000 2.2 Facelift

Ive opened the tank and there is a little black bit at the bottom which I poked with a stick, looked to be a float type thing cos it raised up a bit.

Coolant low warning still there though :(

Any ideas?
is it new sensor time? can it be taken off and cleaned? or I disconnect it and short the connection?

Check float is free to move easily, and also clean connections underneath.

I believe to replace, you have to do entire bottle....

take it off and run clean water threw it or pop it in dishwasher !!  :y

I had this problem and can confirm that the only real way of sorting a float switch issue is a new bottle.  It is very easy to replace, it clips in with a metal clip on the side that faces the front wing and there is a lug that is on the bottom of the bottle.  Disconnect the wiring (there is enough slack in the loom) reconnect to the new bottle and then line the lug up on the new bottle and then clip it in.

A new bottle also looks very nice in the engine bay, particularly if you replace the antifreze / coolant mixture with the long life red!

I got mine from Autovaux.  I cannot remember the part number I am afraid  :-[ but the price was, I think, around £25 - 30.  Vaux wanted nearer £40!  Give them a rin their number is on the website, http://www.autovaux.co.uk/LoadPortal.aspx?tabid=4 - this will take you straight to the "contact us" page.  Don't try and order on line though, the web site is not that good.

Or you can do what I do and just ignore it.  If it was the only warning I was getting then I might feel differently  ;)

Its the wife's and its driving her mad.
Just replaced front brake pads and sensors as well, MID still complaining about those as well.
She is getting tempted to put gaffer tape over the display.
