I've had to top up with oil twice in the last 1000 miles (1 ltr). Is this fairly normal or is it more likely I've got another damn oil leak? I had the rocker cover seals done about 9 months ago and I can't see any visible signs of them leaking again. However, I've just had a look underneath, and there are a few drips coming from somewhere near the front of the engine. Any ideas?

Oil pressure switch? I belive they are about £5 from Vx

Thanks Captain - I take it the oil pressure switch is located at the front of the engine. Are these prone to leaking?

That's excessive. Barge may be right, common failure point on a lot of cars. My rocker covers stank to high heaven, but no detectable loss. Coolant clean?

Yes, a litre per 1000 miles on Omegas is excessive, and warrants further investigation

Coolant isn't clean (a bit rusty looking), but Mark DTM said he would help out doing a couple of jobs on my car in the near future including flushing out the cooling system. This was something Dave told me I needed doing when we were at Santa Pod.

The Oil Pressure Switches leak, the washer tends to get tired and they become loose, but you wouldn’t lose a litre per 1000 miles unless it almost came off.
You can re-torque it to the quoted 55NM, for starters, this will probably not stop the leak completely (you will need either a new washer or a new Switch to properly fix this problem– the new models have an integral metal washer as opposed to the earlier separate copper washer), but if the switch is torqued in place then even with tired washer there is no way you will loose this much oil – which may help you eliminate the switch as the likely problem.

same symptons on mine for about a year been into two garages and failed to sort plucked up enough courage to have a go myself and with good advice from the guys on this site it turned out to be banjo bolts on oil cooler loose

iF it was banjo i would think drips would be to the rear of the engine.

Acording to the Omega owners manual its supposed to use 0.075ltr/ 100Km
Therefore 1000miles = 1600 Km it will use 16 * 0.075l = 1.2ltrs of oil.
So its using exactly what it should be, nothing to worry about :)

Thats the vx get out clause.......if ya cars using oil like its going outa fashion.....you carnt complain!
Using a 1ltr of oil every 1k miles is way too much! :o And it is something to worry about!
Its got to be going somewhere.....either leaking it......but would have to leaking a lot for that.....so if not leaking loads....must be burning it..... :(

I am with TD.
I do accept that all engines consume SOME oil. However... I did a total of 90k in two Omegas and NEVER EVER had to top-up oil, even when I was pushing the service intervals to the limit (10k and even 12k).
Actually, this is not 100% right, the only time I found that car was short of 1/2L was immediately after being serviced by Vx, and I suspect they simply did not put enough of the stuff in the first place.

Thanks for all the advice guys :y Thinking about it, it's never used that much oil since last year when the rocker cover seals went, it's only been over the last 1000 miles or so. Also, I don't think it's burning it as suggested by TD - no tell tale signs of smoke at all. There are definitely small pools of oil under the car when it's been parked all day so I think it safe to assume it's leaking from somewhere. Looks like another visit to my garage :'(
