just bought a 2.5 v6 gls, while on way home with it i tried out a few things.......
most of it is ok but 1) the fans blow out hot from the head vents but when on cold only seem to come out slowly at the screen (is this the resistor pack? i had a similar prob on my mondeo). 2) would this also stop the cold on the aircon? 3) is it a replacement unit if my date/time is missing lines on the display? and finally my temp gauge didnt go up much after a 17 mile run is that normal? many thanks in advance - very newbie meega owner tone.

Omega heater controls run on a vacuum system, are you getting air where the dial indicates? Would'nt think it would affect aircon, lack of gas or dodgy Heater Bypass Valve commom causes. What was your temperature gauge reading? Your info display (TID) will probably need changing. HTH
Welcome by the way :y

cheers for the reply, temp gauge reading just above the lowest mark, will check for leaks/ damaged hoses and the switchover control for the heater then?
-
Heater direction control should hiss when you move it if the vacuum system is working properly.
Temp is low, should be around the 92-95 mark. Dodgy sender unit or temp gauge or stat stuck open.

Welcome toneavenger :y
As Timbuk says temp is too low......way to test if its thermostat stuck open is let it idle until it does get upto around 90/95 then take it for a blast on open road....if the temp drops well down ie 80 or less then stat is stuck open.
Timbuk forgot to ask when the cambelt/tensioners where changed last?? ::) 40k or 4 years max :y

cambelt changed at 45k - 50k ago. will be 1st job on my list!

Good - its way overdue!
Do not attempt without locking kit, and I would recommend DVD done by user here called Robin Hood. Best £3 you can spend :y
If getting a back street garage to do it, ensure they have the locking kit (most will reckon they can get away without it - they carn't). And don't use a dealer.
-
will a dealer charge you the earth then? what would a good price be?

Dealer prices vary from £250 to £600. But either way, I wouldn't entrust my car to their care, especially something as important as cambelt.
Get in touch with Robin Hood and buy £3 DVD, have a watch, then decide if you think you can do it. It really isn't as hard as it sounds ;)

well i got the car for £560 94,000mls -a years mot -gls estate b.r.g so with all the minor faults done i feel that ive got a tidy little motor for about £1,000. and its bigger than my mondeo (which was a brill load carrier) only problem is it just squeezes into my ex council garage!
Its bugging me cos i cant drive it yet until my mondeo insurance runs out to get the full no claims to insure it, blooming re ::)d tape! and the insurance is only £40 more than a 1.8 td mond! ::) ::)
-
Its also worth doing the water pump at the same time as the cambelt. It only costs a few quid more but you have to remove the same things to get at it :y

Thats a bit spookey, I had a 1.8td mondeo before i bought my green 2.5gls omega and guess how much i paid for it :o

yep hopefully 500 should cover a regas, cambelt/ass parts and other little bits. been after an omega for years but at the time a mondeo was more in my price range! although i have been pleased with it. it will only be used for the odd car boot and weekend 80 mile trips so the fuel consumption is not too much a problem.!
-
your gonna tell me £250 now arnt you!!

Was getting 40 out of the mondeo, crap for a diesel. Meegas doing 30 and so much more power to go with it :y

i must admit i did get bored with the lack of power, brought the gls home 18 miles and opened her up- just to test the brakes of course- and it brought back some memories of the rush in my capri in the 90s oh and the brakes are good aswell !
