Title: 2.2 vibration on tickover
Post by: adi on 11 November 2006, 19:32:33
Hi

Just stumbled across this site...   Ive got an 03 2.2 petrol manual cdx that I had from new...and it gets vibration thru the gearstick on tickover...seems worse with the aircon on...Had a few people look at it over the years, but noone knows how to cure it...or if it can be...

Any ideas..

i my gear stick vibrates on my 2.2 '00 seams like the all do it, vibrates more with the aircon on due the face the engine idles about 100 rpm higher with the compressor on.

Its very slight vibration, you have to look closely to see its moving.

Mine's an 03 Manual too and the gearstick is getting more active with age.

It runs smoother with BP Ulitimate but I have no idea why.  Sorry.  :-[

Seems all the 2.2's do it, kind of rough tickover !
Might be that the gearbox mountings are getting tired, BUT i wouldnt worry about it !

Think i am also right in saying these lumps have those silly balencer shafts in the engine too ! Mind you with out them it might rock over on to its side on tick over  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Some days the SLIGHT movement in my gear stick seems slightly worse than other days !!!

Just a 2.2 trate i'm affraid !

I noticed the other day that on my 2.2, I could feel slight vibration through the seat and steering wheel. I hadn't noticed it before, so didn't know if it had always done it or if it indicated a fault.

I know that 2.2's haven't got the smoothest idle especially when cold, but it doesn't seem as smooth as it should.

Can anyone else feel vibration through the seat and wheel on idle? or am I just paranoid (or bored and looking for problems that aren't there!)

Try cleaning the throttle body and breathers, cured mine.

Only cleaned my breathers out a few months ago. Maybe I didn't do a thorough job. I'll try again. Should be easier as I replaced the top rubber hose clips with jubilees. Now takes 2 minutes to get off with no skin missing off my knuckles!

No vibration on mine.

Breathers done & made a noticible difference but throttle still sticking open - guess I'd better get my 3in1

They're not great when cold, it's true, but warm, apart from the odd 'lump' every now and then, mine has no perceptible vibration.

Sounds like I'm off to buy some carb clean at the weekend then. Right after I've changed the clutch slave cylinder on my Landy. Hope it's not too cold on saturday. I'm turning into a fair weather mechanic these days (must be the heated seats in the Omega turning me soft).

Don't forget the throttle body gasket and the one on the top of the oil sump - I did! :-[
