Had starter problem for some time. was going to get the starter motor looked at. BUT now the ignition key wont turn in the barrel. anyone else had this prob, if so what is the cost of replacement parts, if they can be replaced. getting realy fed up problem after problem.
Cheers.

I think there was a similar query a few months back, involved taking barrel apart, but care reqd. Hopefully one of the gurus will be along shortly with any help/precautions/solutions...
-
never heard of this before :-/ presume its linked to your previous problem - just let a starter and ignition go too
-
I would squirt some WD40 into the barrel using the tiny tube that comes with the can and leave it overnight before deciding to take it apart..
Also - don't overlook the obvious - is the steering wheel locked?
-
And don't overlook the even more obvious - is it the right key? :-/
You never know :-[
-
is the key bent - do you have the other to try ?
-
Had this problem before on my 98 GLS, Assuming it isnt connected with other prob'.
even more simple, possible just getting a bit old and rusty.
Try a bit of 3 in 1 on the key, insert it, wiggle it about and give it time to penatrate.
Worked for me :y
It's amazing how a bit of lubricant, can get thing going again. [smiley=shocked.gif]

...or the even more obvious... are you sure it's in "Park". Key won't turn otherwise.

:-? It'll turn what ever position the gear selector is in - it just doesn't do anything unless you're in P or N. Mines been forced in the past as I can get the key out of the ignition when not in P

The Steering is in lock, but no matter how much I try, it wont move. have done the WD40 letting it soak untill morning. fingers crossed.
Thanks all.

..you tried wobbling the locked steering wheel violently (well, not too violently…) from side to side while working the key…?

Had the same problem on my mates Elite, it was me that posted it up a while ago..
If you can't get it undone you need a new barrel etc + housing if the steering is locked.
About £80 from the dealer all in.
You will need to tap round, or otherwise remove the 2 shear bolts holding on the assembly.
It's fiddly, but easy enough, and solves the prob!

Hi Peanuts
This may sound like a daft suggestion but have you tried the key both ways up?? One of my 2 keys will only turn the ignition on one way up!!
