Title: Scuttle drain plug?
Post by: suavegarve on 27 November 2006, 11:55:26
2000 W Reg Facelift 2.0L GLS

Hello.

Following the adverse weather conditions of this weekend, I have a case of the common problem of 2 inches of water in the footwells. Sure enough the scuttle drain was full of water. I could not see a hole for the water to drain through, only a rubber bung right at the very button. I have pushed this out and the water drained away.

My question is, have I got the right hole, and should it have had a rubber bung in there in the first place, surely this defeats the object of a drainage hole. There was one other point in the side of the scuttle, but that had a great lump of wire going through it.

Hope you can help.

The rubber bung should be hollow - drains into the engine bay - if  I remember it goes sideways at a angle not far from the wiring loom.

Yes, on facelifts, the rubber 'bung' has a hole that allows it to drain in to engine bay. On prefacelifts, it is angled, and channelled out in wheel arch...
