Bit of a cheek seeing as I haven't posted since joining in July but in need of help. Got an 03 2.6 and yesterday the blower for a/c & heating just stopped working. No previous problems with it and a/c climate control electronic display working as normal and can still alter (on display) speed of the blower which is now not working! Checked all fuses and none gone so took it into main dealer (luckily I'm in last month of Network Q warranty). They confirmed it was not fuse and have booked the car in for 3 days as they reckon it takes an age to strip out everything to get to motor and will only be able to order part (which takes 2 days to come) once this is done and they can confirm it is motor that has gone.
As car is only 3 years old and done 25k I'm surprised this has gone so early, anyone any knowledge of known problem with system or similar experience and what cause was?
Many thanks

if scuttle drain blocked, this can cause water to get in speed controller for fan and kill it. And we've had plenty of rain ;)
Check and clear scuttle drain, but sounds like controller already blown. Good job unbder warranty, as flippin expensive...

As above.
Its actualy not bad to get to, once the glove box has been removed, as its not behind the main dash assembly.
And its very rare for the motor to fail.

Thanks guys ! I'll check scuttle drain to see if it is blocked as I don't want this to happen again when warranty finishes !

This happened to me & it was the speed controller at fault, took me a couple of hours to change & I didn't have a clue what I was doing!
-
Only takes half an hour to get the speed controller out (plus a few choice words) so I cant see how they can stretch it to 3 days unless they are waiting for a subcontract auto electrician to tell them whats wrong.
The Boy......what diagnostics are there for the climate panel? I started to draw out the speed controller circuit and Im sure there is current feedback to the panel which would identify a faulty controller without dismantling

Haven't noticed anything in live data to do with actual fan speed etc, will check later. If its not in the live data stuff, I doubt the ECU monitors it...
I'll post back findings later....

Had a play with Tech2 on my 1998 Climate.
Live data feed does include Blower Motor (Active/Inactive) and Blower Motor Voltage, so there does appear to be some feedback from the controller (unless its showing what its requesting, rather than actuals).
Speed 1 is around 2.8v, Speed 2 is around 4.5v, then it increases in approx 1.2v steps for each increment of speed.
Also, Tech2 can override motor speed settings, which is useful in helping diagnose problems.

Just an update, it is the blower motor that has gone, not the speed sensor. Got the car back this pm and it's going back in on Wednesday as its 2 days to get parts. Boy am I glad it is in last month of Q Warranty! :)

Bet they change engine ECU followed by G/B ecu and then declare no fault found......or is that me just being ever so slightly miffed at vx dealer costing me over £200 when the car was bloody under warranty >:(
Still its outa warranty now......so no more vx muppets working on it......just myself and local backstreet garage :y

Latest instalment is that new motor fitted today and at high speeds it sounds like a Dyson on acid. Taken out and put in again and still the same. Going back in again next week for motor 3 to be fitted, boy am I glad this is a warranty job. In meantime am I the only Omega driver to have their glove box located in boot for over a week ? ;D

Be careful with the warranty - even though the parts are fitted today - they are only covered by Vx until the warranty expires - which could be as soon as next week. So if you're not 100% happy don't accept it or make sure you get something in writing from the General Manager that if the fault is not with the motor then they'll keep looking and sort it under warranty. Hope motor 3 is ok though. :-/
