Title: DIS PACK
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 01 December 2006, 13:29:30
Where does the DIS, on a 2.0 engine, get it's earth from? There are 3 pins on the connector, 12v, and 2 ecu signals, but no earth - does it earth on the body where it screws down?

It doesnt have an earth.
Remember that the DIS system is a 'wasted spark' system with two plugs fired each time, one on the 'firing' stroke and one on th 'exhaust' stroke.

On the primary side, the 12V goes to the 'top' of both windings, the ecu grounds the lower end of a primary just before spark time and releases it at spark time.

On the secondary side the HT windings are double ended, each end connects to a spark plug, so the HT current path is through the 'firing' plug, through the head and back to the coil via the 'exhaust' plug.

No earth - they are fired by earthing the ECU side circuit
