Hi guys
I need to replace the ECU on my project 2.0. I'm sure I've fried it, becaues I'm not getting an EML now. However, someone has taken the sticker off the ECU so I'm not confident about what ECU number I need to get.
I was hoping maybe someone could shed some light - is this info stored anywhere else on the ECU? If not, is there any way I can be sure of what ECU I need to get for this particular car?
It''s an N reg 2.016v
Unfortunately I can't troubleshoot any further until I have a working ECU
Which also means I need immobiliser ignition component and key transponders to accompany, balls.....
Cheers
James

And ideally, the immobiliser PIN which is part of carpass from doner...
-
sure you haven't just blown the bulb?
-
Pretty sure Jamie, because it won't even try and fire on pots 2 and 3 now....
-
If I have got the carpasses from the donor, is there any way, that I could just get another key made with them, or is it not that simple?
-
If you have the immobiliser PIN for the fitted immobiliser, its possible to program transponders to it.
-
that makes perfect sense Jamie - does anything need to be programmed to the ECU also?

If the engine ecu and the immobiliser ecu come from same car, then no...

If the ECU works at all, you should be able to get the part # with Tech2.

I don't think JamesV6CDX has a tech2....

Sod it, I'm getting fed up to the back teeth of this car now.
I'm going to get another ECU, transponder and immobiliser unit. I'm going to fit the loom off the donor car to rule out any wiring issues.
And if it doesn't go then - it's going to be scrapped.

By which time, it'll have cost you about a zillion quid :o
-
exactly.
What a cock up.
I think I'll buy a rover K series with a blown head gasket next time, can do those with me eyes shut.
Omega is nice though, :-[

Your ECU is only working on one output. That means its probably only the output transistor on the other output that has failed. I reckon that would be mendable. Have you tried talking to Lynx or BBA? That way you can keep the original key/imobiliser.
-
I am not sure who lynx or BBA are
I would agree about only the one output - however - now I don't even get an EML, so I reckon it's fried..

For BBA go to www.bba-reman.com/index.aspx butI can't find Lynx Automotive, IIRC they were still building a web site last time I dealt with them.
-
BBA site looks good
Recommend I get them to test out the ECU thoroughly for me? Any ideas what money I may be looking at?

I've 'phoned them, talked about the problem, then sent them the part and they 'phoned me with the diagnosis before letting me spend any more money. In other words they're quite helpfull.
As for prices, they seem to charge about 66% of what a new part would cost.
HTH.
