Title: Cambelt kit - did i get the right bit?
Post by: The Barge Captain on 05 December 2006, 15:59:14
Just bought my genuine cambelt kit.  As expected, 1 belt, 1 idler bearing, bag of about 5 bolts, but didn't expect the large alloy bit with 2 bearings mounted on it?
Got charged £94 + vat.
Is this right?

Spot on. What year is your car?

You need to make sure the backing plates are the same - there was a slight change. There will be a number/letter in a recess on the alloy plate with the pulleys, it will read something such as "EB" from memory.

Make sure this matches up on both plates, if it does not, then you've got the wrong kit. However, as per Mark's DVD, you CAN still use the kit, if you retain your original backing plate and swap the pulley's over.

Make sense? If not, shout :)

The markings on the belt will be wrong to but, these can be transfered from the old belt (if still visable)

My belt markings were correct, but the backing plate was not.

And in Markjays photo above, its the tensioner (the pulley on the big alloy backplate nearest the camera) that seems to fail...
